Carnage Canyon - 18 to 21 March 2022

[Bugger]

Tiny Tiger suffered very little Damage
Only the Left Back wheel Arch when Tiny was at a very bad angle laying against a Rock
But I'll take that any day above Serious Steering damage

We had an eventfull trip
With Tyre damages

1st one just past OR Thambo airport
Then bought one from Panorama Hi Q

Next as we got on the Gravel road leading to Carnage Canyon
Bent the rim
Decided to take Tiny off the trailer and drive to camp
Fount right front tyre full of Thorns
And Left Back
Today as we left we stopped to inflate the Touaregs tyres
The Total Garage at Kgotsong
Had some Tyre technicians ready to Assist

Repaired the damaged rim
And found another 2 Thorns in the Tyre
And 4 in the one where Asjas have put a plug in the previous night
All this on a Public holiday Thanks guys

Replied them All in quite quick time
Refitted them back and Woolf and I were back on the Road

But learned a LOT this weekend. Was great to be able to drive with different brands and see how they do.

Carnage Canyon Trip Report by Asjas - Part One (for part two - see post # 115 below)
Monday:

So the Carnage Canyon 4x4 Action Group event is just a few days away as i drive towards the tire fitment center on my way to balance the wheels for the 3rd time on Rattletrap. Tomorrow i have training and the 2days following that will be night shift until Friday morning, the day of carnage...

They took until 16:40 to balance the old 33s and i was convinced this will sort out my death wobbles. Come to find on the way home that it felt even worse.. I don't have any time left. I still need to pack for camp, weld on diff armor. And work my 12hr shifts. Driving home al this floods my mind and causes internal PANIC!
It was a cold rainy day. And with my limited experience i crawled in underneath the SJ in the cold rain and started adjusting the geometry of the suspension, my legs and lower body got completely drenched in by the rain. I ad a few "fixes" to try for the wobbles...

Tuesday:
Up at 6am i headed out to the SJ and started it. It was pouring with rain. I went back in and got ready to go for training at work. Now if you have ever driven a 40year old rattle trap in the rain on old muds you are the person that's ready to meet with your maker at any time. I just had to know if my adjustment was worth the suffer last night. This sequentially led to me getting in the SJ so i can test drive it to work/training. And to my delight the death wobbles were completely gone, even though a bob sled had better braking ability i was quite relieved. But...
As i drove to work i remembered the power-steering doesn't even have a belt due to it slipping consistently squealing like a piglet at the abattoirs.

By the grace from above my training was done around 10am. It also meant i had a few extra hours on hand.. So i headed to a good pal of mine and with some explaining we got hold of a usable pulley profile at the local Bearing man shop. Back at his house we started late work and had a few whiskeys as per usual. And before i knew it it was 10 to 5 the evening.. I had to rush to get a new fanbelt to accommodate the new PS pulley that we manufactured the whole day.. Back at his place we installed said belt and it work wonderfully after which i headed home.

Wednesday:
I woke up around 10am with a slight headache paired with unheard thirst. I headed out and set away getting some electronic gremlins sorted and welding on some 'crudemental' diff armor, after which it was time to shower and head to work...

Thursday:
Carnage is tomorrow was the first thing that rushed through my peacan nut sized brain as i woke up at midday. With haste i flew out of bed and started arranging all my camping gear. The Swambo also reminded me we still needed to get some groceries for the weekend. Thus i dropped everything and headed to spar. So by 16:20 it was time for a shower as i needed to head to work and on top of that only half of the gear was packed...
