Chairman's Report:
Summary:
Great weekend.
Well organised.
Yet another 4x4 Action Group Success.
Report:
We all met at a chilly 'Maggie's Farm'. Everyone was there before 08:00 or shortly thereafter.
Colin, our token black, arrived a few minutes late as is his culture.
We had coffees and breakfast. There was a minor little billing issue - more their error than ours.
Despite my trepidation - we were out of there bang on 09:00 - impressive!!!!
Then we headed on the route. 150km in all. Kurt will correct me, but about 50/50 tar/dirt.
Saw a lot of interesting places - makes you realise there are thousands of B&B's, lodges, restaurants etc within an hour of Jo'burg.
MaanhaarRant/Breedtsnek Pass was the only challenge, but only JWOL's Dacia Duster on Geolandar A/T tyres struggled - and only slightly.
Lunch at Brauhaus Am (nearly Empty) Damm is a great venue. Great beer!
Then we popped down to Weavers Roost.
We were told by JWOL (BillyH's Son-in-Law) that he and his 'special' friend (dating Billy's niece or something) who had stayed at Weaver's Roost on Friday night, that they froze - even waking up so cold during the night that they used the Thermal App to check if their electric blanket (I know - two men in a tent with an electric blanket
) was working - it was.
Then Betsie Pieterse (Mrs Colin Striker69) said they too had stayed over the night before in a chalet - they froze despite having the heater on all night.
These two stories made me nervous.
We set up camp, then we lit a fire (by 'we' I mean Bugger) & started to kuier.
Wessel LesseW started on his two potjies, Kurt made his rice, Bugger made some breads & Freddie T 4 2 started concocting his Gluwein.
Dinner served - rice was perfect, bread was lovely & the Ultra Liberal WesseL LesseW's potjies were out of this world.
The hot one was a tad too hot for me... but man, they were great.
The Gluwein rounded it all off perfectly....
The Afrikaners have a stupid saying when someone displays great skill, they say to the person 'jy mag maar' (You Power But).
Well Wessel, you certainly 'Power But'...
From 21:00 the guys were dropping like flies, finally around 23:20 the last of us hit the sack.
Ge'Off Wave snuck off to bed without saying Good Night - like a rat...
I stayed up next to the fire as late as possible hoping I'd be too tired to get cold.
Well, it seems Betsie & Jwol & his 'Special' friend are Wussies - because I slept warm. Maybe because I'm a MAN!
BillyH woke me at 03:15 by bashing & crashing out of his RTT & then walking past my tent scraping his Pantoffles across the ground like a drunk recently stabbed Arab.
Just before 06:00, the BillyH group, (Billy, Gary (Syncro), JWOL & his 'special' friend) woke me by getting up and playing a round of 'How many car doors can we open & slam before Manny gets up & stabs us' - answer, apparently, is 24...
His entire entourage left early - and peace reigned - Aaaaahhhh haaaaaa haaaaaaa haa.
We got up & stood around the fire that I had started at 03:00 on my way back from a pee break.
Then the guys started leaving in order of how henpecked they are:
MikePS (& his lovely daughter Dominica, nica, nica, neigh) left at first light.
Kurt (& the little angel, Emma) were gone by 08:00.
A while later Wessel LesseW, left.
Ge'Off & Avon departed soon after him.
Colin, Betsie & their two kids, Bugger & Don't Walk Away Renay, Andreas, Chas & his wife, Freddie & Christelle & I were the last to leave - just after 11:00.
Was a really nice outing; Breakfast @ Maggies, the route & the Pass, the stop at BrauHaus am Damm, Weaver's Roost & the food - all top notch.
Well done Kurt - when it comes to Arrangements, 'You Power But'...
