Yet we were always late when we had to meet up with the team to drive further. Wasn’t the bushlapa though, it was that “just one more coffee for the road ahead”

Laughs:

A few good laugh's (some that I can't expand on too much here).

1. 'Hom Se...' I can't reveal the the etiology here, but if you were referring to anyone you felt should go to hell, you merely said "Hom Se...".
Bit of a geographical joke (you had to be there to get it) But ask me to explain when you see me.

2. 'Long Body' - I gave a chirp to Wessel, referring to 'A long body'. This totally killed Wessel every time I said it.
Again etiology & context when you see me.

3. Pili Pili & Piri Piri - I told Ally & others my version of the origin of the word Piri Piri.
Portuguese in East Africa saw locals working Bird's Eye Chilli's.
The Portuguese picked one up to taste & the locals shouted 'Pili Pili! (meaning Hot! Hot!)
The Porras thought the Bird's Eye Chilli was called Pili Pili & that's how Piri Piri got it's name.
Ally was convinced I made the story up.

Google says the origin is unclear but Pili Pili is the Swahili word for Pepper...

But I prefer my version

4. Bugger's lost keys stories - Bugger related a series of stories of when he had a bit too much fun, he misplaced key's.
Damn funny!
Particularly the one where he got home, went to the wrong gate & couldn't work out why his remote didn't work!

5. And of course, all the laugh's around the Lion Awimbawe, Awimbawe... :D

Undoubtedly the funniest was the lion saga and peoples reaction.

If I may just give a short add on:

So this Lion keeps roaring very close to us and brave Pierre (Jameson Pierre) decides to go chase the thing away with his spade and 1 quad-trillion candle power lamp with a red filter (basically a red cover that halfs the candle power but at least it makes the light red)…..

I went and opened the driver and back passenger doors of Andreas’ patrol so we can get in if Eric decides to go ape-shit. In the passenger seat and with a closed door sits Ally for a long time already it seems (evidence: fog on her side window and windscreen full of fog already, either she sat there for long or she hyperventilated, you decide….)

While standing at the back door and trying to see if Pierre and his spade are busy doing their “thing” Ally asks me politely: “do you mind closing the the two doors you opened please”Image.

Meanwhile, while Candle-Powered-Spade Pierre is STILL BUSY chasing the lion away, his brave Wife Reney is pouring PO10C shots for the group to calm their nerves in the Synchro….Image

Agree with Andreas, best laughter on the trip and one for the books.

Interesting Chas, having never mated with an Ostrich I was not aware of this.
Thank you for sharing your hands-on experiance....

Sounds like a great trip. But also sounds like it's advisable to go with somebody that has been to Bots before. Would love to visit some day.

In the context of this thread, Chas' comment is pointless, as there were already eyes on the lion. The thing is - a male ostrich call does sound like a lion roar. It's not a mating call - but rather a territorial one.

Just a pointless piece of trivia you can annoy your family with. I'd say "friends and family", but I don't want to depress Manny who should have the latter, but definitely not the former...

I'm glad you used the word "either". It shows that my assumption about no friends was correct.

Do not go to CKGR Piper pan if you are not a well travelled, prepared overlander. You would be stupid to do so.
