I was not knocking anything. Neither was I comparing CKGR to river trip.
I was merely pointing out that I don't like towing when I hit the rough stuff. In my experience, it is more strain on the vehicle and there is a heck of a lot more that can go wrong.
Ultimately, different strokes for different folks.
On the various trips I have done - a sizable portion of them totally on my own - it was the combination vehicles (ie: those with something attached to them on the towbar) that had the most nonsense. In short: if I had to do CKGR, I would not tow. But I am lucky - I have more than enough room for beer and fodder.
That said, well done all. I have enjoyed the various trip reports.

I was responding in general to put everyone in the picture wrt CKGR.
Ideally, you should try not tow.
But then you either have to leave your stuff at a base camp or pack up to go on a game drive.
Trailer is lekker - you close up & go.
Grips has a LC79 that's fully kitted - for me, his set up is near perfect...
The most common Overlanders in Bots are Hiluxes with Alu Canopies & clam shell RTT's.
We saw tons of them - all rentals.

Yip CKGR is not a joke but not a place not to go to
You have to if you get the opportunity.
My vehicles biggest drawback was that I do carry everything in the vehicle and not towing where weight is distributed
2nd problem I was 90% lead vehicle and the 133km we drove to Piper Pan is no problem for my heavily loaded Syncro around 2.9 tons
But I created problems when from a decent average speed of 25-30km/h we started to push the last 2 hours much harder 30-45km/'h
And beeing the first vehicle you hit the large holes
Jump the big jumps All very hard on a vehicle loaded heave abusing the suspension.
A few times We hit culverts so hard that it hurt your back and the Vehicle
With a Quick response on the Radio warning the vehicle behind me of the danger that they could slow down and go through the danger with ease
I'll post a pic of my front o e skid plate how it is folded back with repeated abuse
So for a nearly 40 yeR old vehicle the Syncro is a BEAST.
I am confident in my bus that I would do this whole trip SOLO without breakdowns with no racing to get to a campsite in time before dark
These trips you must not push your Vehicle unnecessary to hard you generate unnecessary breakages and problems
If the rentals with foreigners can do it
So can you.

But these Foreigners don't give a dam about any long term damage they might do to the vehicle by thrashing the guts out of it. Most of us have some mechanical sympathy for our off-road vehicles and want them to last us for a few years to come.
The humble person makes room for progress; the arrogant person believes they’re already there.

Gents, here is a dare, a double dare: go Solo to piper pan and enjoy it. But do it in a Yellow Uno Turbo please.
