ROAM Overlanding

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

Roam Overlanding is a newish (started less than 2 years ogo) series.
The host is Adrian (I think) a young chubby South African chap in his new shape Jimny.
I only discovered it yesterday when AntonB suggested I take a look. There are over a dozen episodes.
He does a few outings with Suzuki 4x4 Club & a few nice trips..
There's a video on packing the Jimny.
A few trips like Helderburg & I think Kosi bay.
He also did a Botswana trip - which covers a few episodes.

Good:
He presents well.
He keeps it positive.
He is likeable.
He is eloquent.
He maintains interest.
His episodes are short (15 - 25mins).
He is a Gautenger & he drives a Jimny, so he aims at the entry level & younger audience.
His production is more professional & polished than other SA products.

Poor:
He is not very manly.
He needs a drone.
When he gives you 'face-time' he tends to waffle on.
He is repetitive 'This was an awesome, awesome, awesome day, just fantastic, really, just great, awesome" (FFS, I get it!)

I'll post a few links below...

Here's the one where he shows how he packs his Jimny:

The problem with you tube is they don't list the videos in order.
I dunno why guys like 4WD Action & Roam etc don't put the episode number in the title.

I think he did good and well done to him.
I dont think its fair, nor appropriate to rate him and criticize his personality. That's who he is and how he does it - accept it for what it is and give him praise where it's due.
Thats the problem with society today, everyone thinks they are better than everyone else and everything is a competition.

Errr... his personality is the 'product' he is selling. So it isentirely appropriate to comment on it.

So just like ASPW - who has a very dry, irritating presentation style - it is entirely relevant to crit the persona these Youtubers present on their YouTube videos.

As I said above, he is likeable and presents well.
But a chubby soft millennial is, to me, better suited to a cooking show than a 4x4 overland show.

Is he possibly not the face of the "new" 4x4 owner Manny. It could very well be the chubby soft millennial is where the new 4x4 money will come from.

Personally I admire the guy for doing something he enjoys and sharing his trips. An incredible amount of time goes into making a few doccies like that.

For anyone to slag the guy off because he is too masculine or has a deep voice or wears a black t shirt is damn ridiculous. Get a friggin life and get over yourselves.

Then rather keep you opinions to yourself.
I've met some guys on this forum over the years, and MY OPINION is they are racist, arrogant 4ssholes, but i dont name & shame them and blurt it out on public forums like this.
You guys need to learn and show a bit more respect to other people.

Geeze, talk about a temper tantrum.

In Manny's defence he made a list of pro's and cons - of which the pro list was longer?

Get off your high horse.

Wayne man... why don't YOU keep your opinions to yourself?

I gave a very fair and balance opinion of the show, I said the guy was likeable and I recommended the show.

Not sure where you get off attacking me and others.

Why are you expressing your opinion if you are so violently and rudely opposed to anyone having an opinion?

BTW: you dont seem to have watched the show and have not commented on it.

So, instead of throwing a paranoid hissey fit.
Why not give your review of his show?

What did you think when they got stuck near Kubu island.

Do you agree with his open windows while doing obstacles.

Do you agree my assessment t that his production quality is high.

Or are your panties too wet for you to contribute constructively...

Maybe you are thinking about another forum. Seeing as you have only been on this one for 3 months. some of us may be arrogant arseholes, but I haven't come across a racist among us.
