In the absence of the Aussies posting anything new, I stumbled upon this. Very similar conditions to some of the Aussie stuff and looks like a heap of fun:
Some time back I did a guided
6-day (?) ‘Ivory Trail / Defender Trophy’ route which in many places was quite tricky and demanding and all ‘off-road’ ...
One of the best trips Ive done ...
By perhaps rerouting a little more
Im sure a more testing 4*4 trophy route could be
mapped out...
‘Ivory Trail / Defender Trophy ‘ route:
“Travel in convoy via Middelburg to Burgersfort,
proceed to the old Penge mine,
cross the Olifants river & camp in mountains
Travel old wagon trail through Strydpoort mtns, camp at African Ivory Route’s Mafefe camp
which is high on Drakensberg escarpment
Enter Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve,
follow tracks through spectacular rain forest down into the Lowveld.
Exit nature reserve, drive via Ofcolaco to Leydsdorp hotel,
overnight in their bush camp.
Drive to Letaba Ranch sector of
Grt Limpopo Trans frontier Park (Open to KNP). Use Luvuvhu 4x4 trail and bush camp
in Big 5 territory
Stay on the Luvuvhu 4x4 trail to exit the Park. Use 4x4 tracks to drive to Little Letaba.
Enter riverbed & drive to African Ivory Route’s Baleni Camp and Camp there ..... “
Depart for home
... Famous Fiver VoorLoper ...
... Veni Vidi Vici ...
That sounds awesome
I will chat to you later Chas, I need more info on this.
I have done part of what you mentioned, but lost the trail in Wolwekloof... Would love to do it in full
