At least I can say the trailer is/was not overloaded. Max weight will be 1.8 tons. Never load up to that and still safely below the max weight the trailer can tow. Will have to wait and see what they say...

Toyota will NOT cover the clutch.
Then, if you reject the quote they'll want you to pay for reassembly.
Take my advice - fit the heavy duty clutch...

While I'm glad you got good service from your insurer, there are many reasons I would rather stay away - the 6 hour deadline to report a stolen vehicle being one...

Just an update on the Fortuner.
Toyota submitted the Warranty claim. They now need to open/strip the Clutch and send pictures through. R2,000 to do this. Then if the claim gets rejected the replacement of the clutch will be R21,500. This will be a big financial knock… Time to start considering all the options out there…
So some say it will get rejected and some say it wont. So I need to prepare for both scenarios.
If they replace it under warranty obviously I will be happy - question then is if I will still have to pay the R2000?
If they reject it then I will seriously consider a heavy duty clutch. Obviously I need to consider the price as well. Price I got at this stage is from Terrain Tamer - The STD clutch they have in SA is R18,500 (Excl VAT). So labour needs to go on top of this as well. Apparently in Aus they also have a new single mass flywheel with the clutch (the existing one will not fit). This is R36,500 Exc Vat (not an option due to cost). It will also take 2 - 3 weeks to get here.
The other problem I have is should I decide to do it somewhere else will be to move the vehicle again.

I've sent you my predictions and suggestions via WhatsApp.
If I'm right you will not hear the end of it...
But here they are for 'I told you so' value:
Toyota won't pay.
Get Andre of Euro Swiss to collect it and fit a new Clutch...

Already called him, waiting for him to send me pricing.
Will be great if he will be able to collect it.

Just an update:
They are currently busy stripping the clutch. Will then take pictures and send it to Toyota for review.
Said that I can maybe have feedback by tomorrow.
Car is at Monument Toyota Constantia.

Unfortunately yes. So in the unlikely event of them doing it through the extended warranty I will then assume that the R2000 fee for this will be covered by them? How else do they plan on replacing the clutch anyway?

Henk, here is my 2 cents
I cannot think of any reason that a photograph will say anything other than that the clutch is worn.
It has not disintegrated (Never heard of that on a low revving vehicle) it is just slipping (If I have the gist of the story right)
So here is what I am seeing:
The dealer knows it is a lot of money, and to get you to submit to his quote, he has taken the liberty of letting you pay for his dismantling of the gearbox from the engine. (That is part of his quote originale, I presume)
Now he knows that in your mind you will take the fact that he has already removed the clutch by him, and that it will be a waste of time to replace the said worn clutch and have it re-removed at a different venue,,, and you will just say: "fix it".
And... You have paid an extra R2k

Who knows with Toyota. As Hedgehog said, they might want that as cash up front.
I'd say there is no chance in Hell that Toyota will admit a fault and replace the clutch under warranty: clutches are wear & tear items like tyres and windscreen wipers, did you actually check the warranty contract?

It is not 100% clear to me, on one of the replies I got on FB it does seem as if wear and tear could be covered by one replacement under the warranty. The thing for me is now if they will decide if according to them the clutch was abused or not.jakeslouw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 8:58 amWho knows with Toyota.
