Sand anchor
Good Evening.
I got hold of a plough blade thingy and I want to make a sand anchor. How long should I make the bar connecting it to the plow blade?
And at what angle so that the blade pull itself into the sand. I want to connect the bar to the round hole in the plough blade.

Hey, those barbells in the background would make a good sand anchor as well!

But in all seriousness, i don't think there are any theoretical considerations with a sand anchor. As long as possible, as short as is needed to fit in your vehicle. If you make it close to pictures of sand anchors you find on the internet, you should be good.

That anchor isn’t going to work at AD if that what you were planning.
Rather bury your spare & winch off that.

That one there isn’t going to work in soft sand. But you’ll never use it anyway. So it’s unwanted weight & another thing in the back.
We seldom winch in sand. Your mates will get you unstuck much quicker.

Agree with XJ Junkie 100% If there are going to be any other people around, a sand anchor is a waste of space.
I'd only bother if you're going on a solo trip into the sand, and/or have an academic curiosity if sand anchors work.

1.) that Jeep isn’t stuck. Either he can’t drive or he’s wanting to test the kak he bought. My Duster would get stuck there but not a TJ.
2.) that sand is hard. How do I know? Because they are walking around in top of it. If it was soft, then they’d be ankle deep.
3.) during really dry periods at AD, when you get out your vehicle you sink knee deep.
4.) a sea anchor is for the purpose of holding, not pulling. But that said, if a sea anchor theory/comparison was applicable, when you winch the anchor back, the boat would sink.
5.) when you have 2 item (vehicle & anchor) buried in soft sand & you winch them together, one of them has to give. Logic dictates the answer

Any sand/soil anchor’s effectiveness is dependent on it gathering up the ground as it’s pulled, to a point where it gets resistance, then stops (which is exactly the principle that happened to your stuck vehicle in the first place).
So logic dictates that when 2 stuck items are winched towards each other, the heavier & most stuck one isn’t going anywhere. My bet would be on the vehicle, not the shite you bought/built.

I think that things like a sand anchor are helpful if you are one or two vehicles in a remote place, like a beach or pan where there are no trees or rocks.
For a place like AD I can't see it working in that fine soft sand.
I once read about a young Englishman who drove through Africa in a 110 solo.
In Cameroon it rained for days (torrential down pour) he was crossing a forest area and kept getting stuck.
he used the winch to slowly edge ahead, but eventually so much mud had gone in the that the winch stopped working.
So he would put the spade down as a base plate & use the highlift jack to jack the vehicle up, then he'd push it off the jack & go round & do the same on the other side.
Took him a whole day to do 300m, but the next day he managed to get out onto smother ground.
