My Ford 408 V8 Stroker Build

#1

Post by grips »

Ok by now most know me for my love of American V8`s.

I always had this thing in my mind to build a Stroker with OEM parts. Search the net and you will get a 393 Ford 351W Stroker.

So I add a twist. Cut down a 400 Ford crank counter weights on my lathe to fit a 351W block.

Send it away to had the big ends cut down to 351w size. Also had it stroked to take 351w Rods.

This build is time consuming with lots of machining to do. Will keep you Guys posted.

I have stripped down a freshly build 351W that I intended to put in the 76 F250. Yes I have stripped the 351 before it even started once.

Sounds like a good thing. As a matter of interest how do you know how much to cut away on the crank weights?

I cut the weights on the 400 crank till they cleared the 351 block. The 400 and 351W has the same main journal sizes.
Big ends were offset cut to 351W diameter adding a few extra mm of stroke. Crank and all the rotating components balanced.

Thys i gave the Yank Ranger to my eldest son Christopher. Plan to move the 347 to the Little Patrol and stuff the 408 into the Yank Ranger.
Building this stroker without aftermarket crank and other stuff like stock pistons and rods were always a dream. Nothing to buy the stuff from the shelve to build a stroker. The fun is all the machining, measuring and assembly of the engine.

Ja , Ja pleading guilty. Time is killing this project bussy with some other stuff like kitting the 79 Cruiser.

Crank has been machined. Now to get all the other goodies together and assemble.

Being hunting season expect a other month or so before we will start the build. Plan is to fit the 408 before a C6 Auto box with NP205 transfer case in the Yank Ranger.
It needs to be good for around 400kW and 700Nm.
