4x4 Action Group

The 1VD V8 is available in a few different configurations. Single turbo, twin turbo and the marine version.

150kW @ 430Nm for the Single turbo

210kW @ 650Nm for the twin turbo.

272kW @ 650Nm Marine version.

Nodular Graphite Iron which is way stronger than normal cast iron and aluminium engine blocks.

Four bolt mains with an added stiffener plate making it theoretical a 6 bolt main bearing cap. This type of main cap lay out is only to be found on high end performance engines.

The list goes on. Forged crank, steel conrods with added knock pins on the caps, pistons with cooling channels cast in.

DOHC 32 valve heads with two level cooling jackets. Additional cooling jackets to keep EGT down.

Added scavenger pump to drain turbo.

Off the shelve kits making the single turbo producing 300kW an 1100Nm.

The Aussies build a 1000hp dragster with a 1vd V8 doing 0-200 in under 5 seconds.

Racing them in different diesel classes in Australia.

Quite a few samples running in SA with 500k km plus on the clock still with original injectors.

Farmers favourite for heavy towing.

Robust electronics that never fail.

Only time will tell if the 2.8 will dethrone it in the coming years,

The other day I were thinking about Diesel VS Petrol. Petrol just don`t care how hard you work it.
No EGT and all that other stuff to worry about. You can moer it as long and as hard as you like

Not the V8 but straight 6 1FZ used to build a hot 1/4 miler

Then Toyota took the 1VD, cut two cylinders off to make it a V6.
They moved the turbos & manifolds to make it a 'Hot V'.
It's in the Land Cruiser 300 as the V6 3.3 Twin Turbo diesel.
Making 225kW and around 700Nm.
The F33A was born!!!

And everyone driving the V6 3.3 300 Series want their 200 Series V8 back. Read the forums.

Some love them
Some don't
But tuned they make power

I'd happily own a 70 Series with a tuned TDV8

evidently brings 450 kW and 750 Nm of torque to play.

We are talking 4x4s here Chas, there are many engines in BMWs and Metcs that produce lots of power.
Here we are talking about reliable engines fitted to 4x4s...
Not V8's in Defenders and other "Platkarre"...

Unfortunately we does not have the huge engines they have in countries like the USA that produces a 1000Nm in stock trim. Also some of the most powerful and reliable engines from other countries.
That is the reason why I said South Africa.

The 1VD V8 made its name as a very good tow vehicle in both the 70 Series and 200 Land Cruisers. The torque available at very low rpm makes it one of the best 4x4`s available in slow 4x4 work.

There are many 1VD V8`s around that have done 500k km plus. Most still with their factory injectors fitted.

For the guys that love to modify it is one of the best base engines that due to its solid build and nodular graphite iron block.
