Stripping TB45E
I've had a broken TB45E motor lying in my trailer for quite a while now. I'm not sure exactly what happened, I think it may have been an experimental turbo on a motor which is very difficult and expensive to turbo properly... Anyways, it has a conrod through the block. You'll see the missing con-rod on number 5 in the first photo...
I started stripping the motor recently. It is tricksy - the motor weighs about 275kg. I'm working on my own so it is one hell of a mission getting it turned over all the time to get at the bolts... But I am almost there...
It's an old-school 4.5 litre six cylinder push-rod motor and it is a thing of great beauty...
Some photos of the stripping down. I'll post a complete break down of it all once I am done...

What are you going to with the spares from the motor, because the block and crank are now good anchors.

Lekker Ian. Please post pic`s of the hole in the block. It is sometimes possible to repair the block depending on the damage.
Engine stands are not that expensive. Makes work on an engine a breeze particularly if you doing it alone.
Enjoy

Paul - I have already sold quite a few spares.
Christo - I'll send photos of the block when I am finished.
I was thinking it's probably possible to repair it - no idea. If the block is toast, I'm going to clean it up nicely, get a glass top, put some LED's in the cylinders and use it as a table in my man cave...

Ian complains that, at 275kg, he is struggling to turn it over.
I believe, in his youth, Ian turned a few things weighing that much over to have a go at the other side....

If you use the block as a table, weld 4 conrods to the bottom corners for legs. It looks good with the pistons as feet. Then attach the broken conrod and any pistons that is left, coming out of the hole in the block.

Ian,
Careful not injure yourself in the absence of an engine stand.
The TB45 is cheap since they get chucked in favour of the M57 and v8 conversions.
So, may unfortunately not be worth the effort to fix it.
I guess it is good for schooling how the engine works and understanding your own working TB45
