He should have bought the LC300 V6 3.3 twin turbo Hot Vee.
It has the 225kW he now longs for & enough torque to pull a Freestater off his sussie.....
But did he listen to me?
No....
1) be single and childless
2) earn Manny money

Thanks Ian for pointing me to Dirkie and Fourie forum, again proving that that forum is only useful if you have a direct pointer to a thread…
After reading the comments of respected members, i think I will pass on any software mods….

One needs a direct link to the information on that forum. Otherwise one needs to sort the wheat from the chaff. Where the wheat is the actual technical informational posts one wants and the chaff is the pages and pages of posts of irrelevant nonsense related to baking, pedicure, manicure and male perfume...

I am a big proponent of the do-not-fiddle-with-the-mechanics-of-an-engine crowd.
For instance, I was in the market for a 2nd hand Amarok V6 before I bought the Ford, and ever single one that was advertised had a chip or a remap done. I just walk away and never look back.
I do not for a moment believe that there are some mods or alteration you can do to a vehicle's engine that would achieve the 4x4 trifecta a) not affect the engine's longevity, b) make it more fuel efficient and c) give it more power. It is simply unachievable.
Moreover, I have made my views on EGR blanking and decatting etc. quite clear on this forum. Take an EGR blank for instance, a vehicle's pistons or crowns were designed with certain combustion temperatures in mind. The purpose of an EGR is to lower the combustion temperature thus lowering emissions. Take out or blank the EGR and you effectively increase the combustion temperatures. I have not met one remapper of chip-fitter that qualified as a metallurgical engineer. And the thumb suck opinion that "it can take it" rendered by some of these yobbo tuners do not pass the muster (for me anyways).
Long story short: go to anyone that does a remap and ask for a 5 year/100000km warranty. If you manage to find one that offers it, take it to the dealer and ask whether it would affect the dealer's warranty. You will quickly find no symbiotic relationship can ever exist. For good reason.
If you want a quicker car - buy a quicker car. If you want a car with decent fuel consumption, buy one.
I echo Ian's sentiments: fiddle fiddle forked.

I blanked my EGR 5 years ago and sadly my 3.0 DiCOR common rail intercooled turbo diesel seems to love the job.............no more limp mode and check engine light.........

That's good to read.
Still doesn't sway me though - with regards to an EGR, one must approach it as a serviceable item much the same as replacing a timing belt every 100k km. Then there will be no check engine light or limp home mode.

... surely an EGR results in less fresh air to the
Engine thats mixed with recirculated stale-feed
thats O2 poor, CO2 rich and Carbon rich
and at a temperature above ambient ...
Its hard to see benefits beyond prevailing lower emissions rate.
Disadvantages would surely include
O2 deleted feed, carbon buildup, higher feed temps
and probly higher engine running and emission temps.
EGR is geared to evade/avoid emission legislation limits
and surely there are few if any performance benefits ...
... but correct me if and where Im wrong ...
Another largely beneficial and harmless improvement
May well be to add a larger intercooler to contibute
to lower engine running temps, life and performance.
So too, perhaps, with the addition of an bigger oil cooler.
Im not sure of the problems such changes may make
to the workings of the engine management systems and routines
