it works,but.....
setup:
vehicle across shallow stream.front wheels against knee high obstacle.
rear wheels in between water polished rocks and in mud.
4x2 and pressure at 2.5bar
rope is 5mm dyneema with breaking strength of 3 tons tied to a tree 20M away.
capstan fitted on driver side.
rope winded up manually half way first layer and left loose about 2M.
test:
with difference in circumference between wheel and capstan it takes few moments to role on
extra 2M of rope.once rope is under tension(dyneema doesn't stretch) it pulls, and i mean it.
at that very moment front wheels pop up and to the left while rear slid to the right.
all in all vehicle did move forward, found traction for a moment and lost it again, for a reason
of capstan not rotating at same speed as wheel does, and rope got relaxed.
some wheel spin and engages again....and so on.
again,it works,but
needs constant wheel slip to keep rope under constant tension, like snow,mud,sand....
traction,no traction situation works clutch overtime
smaller the difference in between diameters of wheel and capstan the better it will work,
but it will become unpractical due it size,
especially if 2 are used to pull in straight line.
judgement on parts:
5mm dyneema was up to given job considering stress endured due to weight of vehicle and obstacle.
vehicle,capstan,wheel nuts:no damage
given obstacle was done many times without problem in 4WD.

It may be because you post a Forum issue in a Thread about Mahindra mods in the Builds & Mods section?

2:click on build section takes me there but logs me out
3:look at number one
4:click on mahindra thread takes me there but logs me out
5:number one again
6:click on reply button take me there but logs me out
7:number one again
8:done typing, click on submit, and i'm out again and back on main page........
no more complain and derailing this thread from my side

unique side steps to fit unique rock sliders.
they can still manage weight of the half of the bakkie.jacked until 2 wheels of the ground.
how much of real beating they can take ill test only next year.
side steps are easy to install and remove(before trail),also fit inside canopy.
i made them to be in line with hub covers.
