Oh, and before I forget, I have learned one valuable lesson: When you work out a budget for something like this, multiply it by two and then some! It easily becomes a deep and dark money pit.
Oh yeah.

thats the one lesson you learn the very hard way.

Have you kept track of your hours and worked out how much you could have billed by the way?

😀

I am ashamed to admit I have about 74 hours in thus far.

I have build and rebuild my fair share of vehicles. Other than fun it does make no economical sense. Accurate book keeping on projects have show me on many occasions that one only remember the expensive items in a build. Fact is small things like bolts and nuts, hoses , paint and all that other little stuff that one tends to forget make up a huge amount of the project. Sometimes a surprising amount :D

Bietjie off topic.

R16000. Engine
R7000. Engine management
R5000. Dyno tune
R8000. Radiator
R2000. Intercooler
R2500. Intake en turbo hoses
R1200. Air cleaner/housing
R3500. Clutch
R2000. Bellhousing
R600. Flywheel
R600. Power steering pomp
R800. Hydrolic hoses en fittings vir ps
R2500. Exhaust
R10-20000 vir nuts, bolts, fittings, engine mounts, onvoorsienne uitgawes

Skielik raak so n R16000 conversion vinnig duur.

En as jy tyd (joune of iemand wat dit laat doen) bygetel word, is die kostes deur die dak.

Baie mense vra baie keer of n conversion sin maak. Ekonomies: NEE. Terapeties: beslis

Ok only saw this thread nowImage

Had a quick read through

Lekker to see the guys building toys

A few pointers

Wiring you must have the 2 Idiot lights working - oil light as suggested with a huge light on dash and very important the Generator/Alternator light also with a big light on dash

The importance of the Alternator light is that if the Fanbelt comes off the light will come on and indicate it is not changing

But more important is that the engine will have no cooling which cause overheating and engine damage as the cooling fan is attached on the Alternator shaft in the Fan housing - not good if you are alone deep in the veld

The offroad racing guys have fitted a bowl shape mesh over the back of the fan housing at the round air intake hole of the fan to keep grass and foreign matter out of the cooling fan

Did you come right with a master cylinder ?
If not you can buy a golf dual circuit one, fit a 20mm spacer between m/c and bulkhead
Modify pipes and supply and Bob's your uncle

Rear tyres try and fit the biggest and widest
Front a smaller and lower profile
This makes traction amazing

I did Baboons pass in a 2wd buggy when told it would be impossible

So yes it can go where a croozer can go and further - its proven

You welcome to give me a bell now and then if you need some help and advice +27826zero zero8663

On the carb check that the Small idling jet on the rhs of the carb is clear of dirt or it will not idle.
And give me that bell to explain how to set the auto choke
Syncro Cox Camper
SJ 410 TarzanTiny
Millennium Beetle VR6 T Liberty
And a few VW Air cooled Toys

... thanks Bugger ...
... good constructive advice .
Was actually talking to someone today about wiring in a ‘+50A to -50A’ dial ammeter into my old Series 3 Landy , (even though they werent produced as standard items on them.)
He was warning to ensure I connect the ammeter ‘in series’ with the circuit I want to monitor (and not ‘in parallel’ like a voltmeter) and do so in such a way as to NOT include the high cranking current of the starter which would be excessive.
Also as its an alien part, so to speak, to make sure it can handle the output of the installed alternator etc
