Black smoke is only because of a badly tuned engine..........and mostly on old clunkers like the TD27/42 IDI when you fiddle with the air/fuel ratio and don't adjust the boost. But we digress...........

Not nice Graham... Not nice... :(

It's not that bad. Waterpipe burst - checked my diagnosis this morning. The plastic pipe behind the block. Presume the overheating is a stuck thermostat or a bad waterpump. Vehicle is at workshop now. I don't have time to do it myself at the moment...

No oil in the water, so I do not think it will be too bad.... Let's see. :)

Right... Since Graham called me out about it because he is on some WhatsApp group I am also a member of...

Workshop just called. The diagnosis is in. Waterpump, thermostat and the pipe behind the block that busted yesterday... Oil, gaskets, head, etc all good. In short, pretty much all I said above... :) Should be fixed by tomorrow (depending on the parts on order) for the princely sum of R2.7K.

In short: age and mileage. Not service. :)
