BBQ or Braai

#1

Post by Oppies3800 »

Which do you prefer to use at home and camping?

Gas
Wood
Charcoal

And why?
Could this be sarcasm?

Gas is quick, clean & used by people who think Spur make a good steak.
You can't braai on gas much like you can't grill in a frying pan with sunflower oil.

Charcoal is a braai, not as good as good wood, but easier, quicker & cheaper.

Wood is ideal, providing it's the right wood.
The problem is you need to build up a decent 'bed' otherwise the window of opportunity is too narrow.
But wood creates the right ambiance, imbues the right taste & creates good heat.

I generally use briquettes, but would prefer to only use wood.

I might add that I have NEVER seen Manny pick up a pair of tongs and braai. Not in the last 5 odd years that I have known him and multiple weekends away.

I may add that delegating the Braai'ing duties is the ONLY Thing I manage to get the Committee to do for me...

Wood - ONLY wood and preferably Kameeldoring. The burning Kameeldoring has a special flavour that cannot be replaced by any other wood.

I have never ever in my life use anything like charcoal or whatever you want to call that black stuff. I always thought a braai is about a decent fire :D :D :D :D :D .

But then I do have a gas griller, It have plate and a griller we use it to make nice breakfasts and grill a steak on occasion. Must note the griller side is rock filled. Ok I know it sounds like Spur, but then who goes to Spur. :D :D

Why spoil decent skaap tjoppies, only Kameel and Swarthaak for skaap tjops. Where ever I visit friens and family I took my own Kameel along. Even busy to plan a wood tray for the 79 Cruiser when touring.

O ja ,and nothing can duplicate a skaaprip positioned at an angle close to a Kameel doring fire with fat sizzling in hot coals. Braaiing a rib slowly this way can tke 3 to 4 hours. Maar dan is hy so sag jy skud die bene uit
