Hi,
I want to buy a tent for 1&2 nights’ stay. The Oztent RV4/5 is nice but expensive vs a dome canvas tent from ex. tentco. Would like to hear the opinions out there?

I've seen the Oztent in action, it's setup time is 2 minutes, but they are not small when packed up. This ease of setup comes at a big cost.
A normal canvas dome tent takes longer to setup, packs smaller and saves a lot of moolah.
I'd get a canvas dome, you can pick up some real bargains on Facebook Market place

The oz tent, and cheaper Wizz tents, pack up in a long roll, maybe 3.5m long ? ... someone here can correct me ... and to carry it you really need a roof rack that can carry it on the side butclear of the doors ... could put it on top but more load unload pt. Ive got a tentco dome, for 2, but also want a 2-man Ozz or probably a Wizz. will set it up on side of my Metalion and use it as sort of awning to my RTT and ground level changeroom etc

Wessel, I know where you are going with this.
I have this:
https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/e ... -tent.html
It’s super cheap and an excellent product.
We used to own a canvas dome tent and never liked the tricky setup etc. and with the Metalian we never used it.
It’s also heavy, you have two bags. One for the canvas and the other for the poles so it’s a schlep.
You already have the Bushlapa so you don’t need a canvas tent, just get a pop-up for the one night type “man’s weekend” aways that are few and far between and keep your BL for the family getaways.

Further, what bedding do you suggest? Stretcher, thin mattress or blow-up mattress? In general I hate blow-up mattresses...

Blow up mattress are comfortable until they leak. Other types are horrible when it comes to comfort, get yourself a sponge.

What about Carmaquip mattresses, they have good reviews?

A stretcher won’t fit in the Frontrunner tent, I use a 50mm fold up mattress on the ground and place a thick blanket / duvet on top of it and then sleep in my sleeping bag on top of the blanket. Works well.

A stretcher won’t fit in the Frontrunner tent,
Have the same problem with the Malamoo Xtra. This is slightly longer that the Frontrunner but part of it is the vestibule so the space inside the tent is more or less the same. The stretcher supplied by ATG for motorcycle touring is only about 5cm high and therefore does not push into the sidewalls of the tent as a relatively high normal stretcher does. On top of this I use a First Ascent Dream Deluxe mattress and then sleeping bag. This has served me well in very cold weather

There are two issues with the stretcher. Very expensive I think and it takes a little while to assemble and disassemble. However I have the older one and looking at the newer one it seems as if it will be easier to set up and take down.
I realize that these are relatively expensive solutions but I drive a Jimny so small and light is ideal
