Good luck with this LX!

Pricing is a touchy issue, this will put the cat among the pidgeons.

Update on the UZUSHI LX1 Offroad Trailer Build:
UZUSHI - (Zwahili word for Fabricate), LX1 - (Limitless eXplora version1).
Started with the design from Scratch, after buying a Rolling Chassis only to find out it has limitations, New Chassis designed, the Axle, brakes, Coupler and most components will be taken of the bought out Chassis and use on the new Frame. The box will be Expanded Polystyrene (Sandwich) Panels 50mm thick, Kitchen, 16mm boards. This is going to be very Slow since the budget is not great. Expect a long wait before my next update.
Data:
Box: 2800 x 1500 x 1500
Weight: To be updated later, Still adding more stuff.

Attached my wheel arch I use on my trailers. Welcome to use or change as required.
Looking at your design, the body will be covering part of the arch -this will add significant strength to the arch.

So I find myself reading this thread again. Criteria minimal setup time. For some reason the Infanta Inkulu tick all the right boxes. But these things comes at eyewatering prices

Set up time is a figmentation of the mind. Why i say this is it depends on what one includes in "set up". This is directly related to what you take with you.

Our experience with the Jurgens Xplorer is we can be set up within 15 minutes without the awning.

But when touring we never use the awning. Just find a tree, unhitch, jacks down, roof up, open gas and pull out the fridge unit. Batteries last 24 hours so solar is not plugged in.

Latest models of vans have indoor showers and fixed hinged awnings make it sooo much easier to set up.

My advise is to get them to do a set up, and see what this all includes. Then in your mind figure out what else you would be packing out in addition.

Finally Christo, if you want to part with the bucks, Infanta is just a short skip and hop from where we stay. I will gladly head out there to go look and give you some more insight.

If I had the bucks, this van would be my choice too, with Tough Cats next in line.

Cheers

I agree with Henri,. There was a video about an Off Road Caravan where they ran a stopwatch in the top corner of the screen.
One guy, on his own, set up in under 10 mins.
Impressive!
But!
The trailer was unhitched and standing on a level surface.
Although he set it up, he did not put down a ground sheet, he never put out a chair, he never pulled out the fridge.
So, my full set up can take up to 45 mins, but the part he did in under 10mins takes me about 20 mins.
In other words, his full set up compared to mine would be 35mins vs 45mins.
Can't remember which Off Road Caravan it was though....

Henri I used to own a Jurgens Xplorer they are nice but not what I have in mind at this stage. I am thinking about a 2 sleeper that setup with minimum effort. Currently me and Karin are happy with the Cruiser setup. Our only against is when staying over longer than a day and you move around. Taking it down and set it up every time you use the vehicle is a waste of time. I guess no camping setup is perfect.

Hi Christo.

I knew you had owned an Xplorer before, but I was merely using it as an example of our experiences are, using the van for quick set ups.

The real comparison should to my mind, exclude set up time to a certain extent, and rather focus on layout, accessibility etc. Quick set up and break down is a bonus.

One thing that sits top of my list is that we must be able to access most of the necessities without having to get into the van or walk around a piece of equipment to get to the fridge. This is a major design flaw on many Off Road Van's.For example the fridge sits in the nose cone, so you have to walk around the slide out wash basin stand and stove assembly to get to it.

Just saying.

Cheers

Fabrication of the LX1 Offroad Camping Trailer has started, but I'm still messing around with design iterations.

You've been stuck in the concept stage for 2 years.

At the rate you are going it would have to be a hovercraft that can teleport ~ because by the time you get done, that's how trailers will work...
