Regulator, O' Regulator, where art thou ?

On my Conqueror Trailer I have a 5kg gas bottle.
This is plumbed, through the wall, to my cheap Cadac 2 plate stove.
There is no regulator in the system.
The Cadac works well.
When I bought it, it was branded LP.
Everyone told me it stood for LP Gas.
I'm 99% sure it was for Low Pressure.

I decided to upgrade & bought a new Cadac deluxe 2 plate stove.
The new one can run on SA LPG, Butane etc. etc.
The new one comes with a regulator.

I'm a bit confiussed as to why the old one needed no regulator & the new one does.

I assumed that the 3 & 5 kg bottles are too low pressure to need regulators while the 9kg up, which have bigger outlets do.

I called Andre Strauss as he is an overlander, 4x4'er, Plumber & Gas installer & asked him.
Trust me - he has no idea why the old one was happy with no regulator.

Anyone have an idea?.

Cadac prefer to use jets to regulate gas flow. All Cadac skottel braais, burners and other stuff is regulated via a jet in the feed to the equipment.

Most other manufacturers uses regulators.

So in your Cadac system there would be a jet somewhere

Grips has the correct answer. The older burners had a jet where the burner’s knob opened the gas flow, it limited the gas flow.
Remember the little metal ring you had on a gas lamp and heater? That helped to mix the air gas volume for optimal burn.

Thanks guys.
So the Jet did the job of a regulator hence LP.

Kind of what I suspected but wasnt sure.

I'll fit the regulator with the new one.

Cheers!

Erno, I mainly use the stove to boil water, it's a bit slower if you have to make a fire everytime...
