Ek besit nou al vir 11 jaar 'n HLJ en het dit nog net een keer gebruik op my wa.
In elke ander opsig was die standaard jack voldoende.
HLJ maak vir 'n moerse projektiel in tyd van 'n ongeluk.
Ek sou twee keer dink voordat ek een saamvat.

Also, once Wessel has the complete packing list, he needs to calculate the weight of all that stuff.
When you add that up, you will quickly realise the 'weight to benefit ratio' of the High Lift jack makes it just not worth it.

Important point Manny regarding weight.

Regarding the HLJ, wouldn't one of those exhaust jack bag things be a better option? not sure what volume it will take up, but sure it will be less weight than the HLJ.

I get the weight issue but the weight of these items are insignificant for me because I will have 2 people max in the Prado (weight definitely significant if you load 5 adults in the car).

The Prado 120 can take about 540kg, that excludes the driver and a full tank of fuel.
A passenger 80kg
The stuff on the list 180kg.
Food and booze, say 60kg - 80kg.
Aftermarket bumper, bash plates and Rocksliders 100kg

So that's about (pure guessing) 420kg - 440kg of the 540kg gone.

So that leaves you only about 100kg to120kg, at best, to play with.
Add a winch, a Jerrycan of fuel or a long range tank and a cooler box of ice for the drinks and you are close to the limit.
You can then forget a roof rack or anything on it.
A RTT is totally out of the question.

I didn't include clothing, but I've picked up Tammy's bag and it was heavy!

I get it that adding a High Lift jack is going to add to the weight and so will a long range fuel tank and a winch and a....... Hell if I need to consider all items then perhaps I need a 6x6 Prado.

The idea of my list is items that will permanently stay in my overlander/4x4 vehicle. I'll address the weight issues when trips need them.

Merely pointing out to others, who may read this Thread, that weight is always a consideration.

Weight and space.

So when you are buying the stuff on the list, maybe go for a collapsible kettle rather than a conventional kettle.
Go for a Bushbaby butane cooker rather than a Cadac bottle and a two plate cooker.

Each person's needs may differ.
Some people may have kids that will impact the situation...

Manny, if you and Paul#25 traveled together and you gave a lift to Tammy’s bag, you would be over the limit before you pack your own bags or beers etc. Hell, you may even need to travel with a half tank of diesel to remain under GVM

That bag is large and heavy.

Dankie Leon, die enigste goed wat in my prado permanent gaan wees is die lys van goed in post 2 (behalwe die high lift jack). Sover niks meer as 120kg nie, ek wil dit so hou.

Manny before you start chirping, no i did not include my after market rock sliders, bumpers, drawer system, roof rack and of course my after market upgraded suspension..... this is my vehicle for when I travel alone or if perhaps only my wife joins. It’s fair to say I have enough capacity to carry significant more weight apart from the items in post 2.
