Blouberg Nature Reserve

This Nature Reserve is run by Limpopo Province. It is situated 70km west of Louis Trichardt (Makhado).

We stayed at the Malope Bush Camp. About R250 per night.

All sites have ample shade. Water tap is provided. No electricity. Braai Site is provided. Braai grid is useless.

The sites are quite far apart and very private surrounding a communal ablution block, with hot water provided by “donkey”. Ablution facilities are adequate. There are five sites in the camp but we were completely alone. In fact in the two days/nights that we were there we did not see another vehicle.

The claim to fame of this nature reserve is that it houses a large colony of cape vultures. Some 800 breeding pairs. They have what they call a vulture restaurant where they put out carcasses for the vultures to feed on. It is quite a macabre scene to see all the decaying carcasses laying about but intriguing as well. You can also take a drive, 4x4 only, around the back of the reserve where you can see the nesting area of all the vultures on the cliff faces of the mountains.

A very worthwhile trip to do.

Thanks!
I think it would be awesome if everyone can leave a review of a trail, camp or park that they have been to.
