Almega Karavaanpark - Dinokeng

To recover from camping withdrawal symptoms (last camp was last in early Jan! ), we decided to pay Almega www.almegakamp.co.za in Dinokeng a visit, really nice place! Coming from Pta, it is just past the Safari Mall and the De Wagensdrift road, outside the reserve. The benefit of that is that you don't have to pay the Dinokeng 'conservation fee' of R100pp...

The stands are big, have plenty grass and shade, and each their own bathroom. The braai is on a bit of paving, so you can't move them around, most braai's are spaced far apart, but a few are uncomfortably close... We had 3 campsites (4C, 4D and 5A), so we could move around if needed.

You can't bring your own wood, apparently they are scared of wood borers, but they stock decent wood - you can buy once a day from a little golf cart with a trailer that comes past all the campsites (ice as well on the cart), or you can get from reception any time that they are open. The braai is cleaned in the morning (after the night before!), so you can start a fresh fire with a clean grid every time!

The bathrooms look relatively new and are spectacularly clean, and even have some cleaning stuff, so you can sort out your own puddles of shower water! They also have a pool, nogal in the shape of an electric guitar, lekker to cool off in.

As I said, the camp is outside the reserve, so not too many animals can be seen along the fence, we saw a couple of kudu and some warthogs, but there are plenty birds, some very tame, best is to take an early morning stroll along the fence with your binoculars, you’ll definitely spot some!

We learn something new everyday interesting about the conservation fee

How do we know what camp sites fall under the same rules

Obviously by the info but I thought if you go through the booms you need to pay
Same as we Camped at Zebra Bush Camp and did not need to pay conservation fee

Will Google and see if there is a map of some out of area camps

But I do not mind paying it as you closer to the animals
