200k budget - which 4x4?
Hi all,
So..... I flipped my FJ on a farm 2 weekends ago and it is a write off.
I am going back to Prado VX for my daily drive as the FJ was just too impractical for a family of 4. I will however not use the Prado for trails as it WILL get damaged.
I have a big ask and I will be happy for assistance and input to find a vehicle to off road with, i am not vehicle biased this time, promise.m.
I have 200k to buy the following:
- good enough 4x4 to do i.e. Berakhah and Jansens trails with ease
- still reliable with an engine and gearbox that can still do 120k+ km
- should tow my Bushlapa but not mandatory
- 4 seater
- i am open to add a lift of 40mm max but must be part of the R200k budget
Your input is appreciated.
Old FJ? Rubicon? Lifted Fortuner? Short wheel base PJ?

Wessel, Wessel, Wessel. What you been up to? I was going to buy that FJ from you when you got tired of it. Hope there were no serious injuries.
As Kurt says. A 4.8 Patrol would be my choice. Fantastic vehicles but you know you can't even mention fuel costs.

Patrol - either the 4.2TD or 4800
Land Cruiser 100/105
JKU 3.6 (not sure if they've dropped to R200k yet).

Thanks all,
What i meant with 120kkm is that the engine should still last for another 120k km before it needs work done on it.
How is the Patrol’s ground clearance?

I would not ignore the 2.8 diesel Isuzu Fontier. You can pick up a decent Frontier for 90k and make oodles of mods within your budget.

No.
First, 74kW won't cut it for Wessel.
Second, parts are starting to a problem with that shape (I have a KB280DT).
I would not buy anything over 10 years old MAX...

Your earlier post about the Patrol and Cruiser 100/105 contradicts this comment.Mad Manny wrote: I would not buy anything over 10 years old MAX...
