What would you buy?

#1

Post by KurtG »

I know there is another new Defender thread so this is not a follow on necessarily.

What I want to know is where would you put R1m or there abouts now, if you were purchasing a NEW 4x4.

I don’t care if you won’t buy new, so don’t suggest second hand Disco 5’s etc. I want to know what would you get brand new for the price range of the new Defender, if not a Defender?

Guys, you obviously cannot read or understand instructions. Maybe CoronaVirus reduces brain capacity as a side effect

It's a tough one. The new defender is brilliant on paper. But it has a legacy of issues to overcome. A Toyota Landcruiser VX200 is similarly priced and has a good track record. Not as capable, comfortable, refined or luxurious but has a more reliable track record. Due to be replaced by the 300 soon and so far only a V6 pertol model available. I would definitely go Defender if I had the money. Looks growing on me and reliability only time will tell.

The 200VX would not be close unless “close” means 250k. The 200 GX might fit but not worth a bar new

Kurt's question is "What would you buy in the same price range as the new Defender.

Defender pricing starts at R948 000 and runs through to R1 498 400

So basically you need to choose something from around R940 000 to around R1 500 000.

The JL Rubicon is in that range - without extras.

I would go for the Land Cruiser 200.
Either theLC200GX @ R1.1million, or the LC200VX at a smidgen over R1.5 million.

There's nothing else in that price range that interests me...in
