Not impossible if you get a chassis with complete drivetrain and papers.
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it

Craig, no. Just no.
You have a very old, overdue for replacement 4x2 which is, frankly, embarrassing.
You are not keeping it.
You are not converting it to 4x4.
You are going to get yourself a nice KB5 D-Teq 4x4.

I would firstly chat to Reenen and Sakkie and see what they say.

A rebuilt 2.8tdi shouldn’t be more than around 30k
Put in a SFA and transfer case and bobs your uncle.

Why do you want to do that?
Doesn’t your 4x2 go anywhere a 4x4 does?

Legally, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. The chassis and engine numbers are what counts in terms of registration. The body isn't important.

You might have to re-register the vehicle from licensed to carry 2/ 3 persons to 5

Just be aware, that a Dteq is not cheap if things go wrong. I would rather opt for the Go-Big shape if you want to upgrade.
