Awesome, good luck Paul!
The autobox on mine cost about 20k to repair and almost 4 months and the stuffed up the flywheel, moved it to another indy and that was another 16k to fix what the first one stuffed up.

But now she runs beautifully, towed the "van" again for the first time this weekend.

So true Kurt. I won't use anyone else again.
I'm actually still waiting for quotes from 2 other well know indies for the repair. Won't be bothered to call them for anything again.

A while back we spent a few hours at a presentation by Sean Riley & Co at the Landy box specialists ‘ Gearbox Company ‘.
He claimed that the hardiest, longest lived gearbox was probably the LT95 ... a widely held view especially by the more knowledgeable.
But some very rude chaps say it really only belongs on a tractor.

Hi, are your sure. There is no flywheel on a auto box. just a flex plate with a ring gear and they are as cheap as chips. Are you not thinking of a torque converter.

Hi Uncle Peter, not sure, you are probably correct,
but basically the little "tabs" that the CPS sensor reads have been bent and broken by the first guy and the the flex plate that was installed was to thick and that caused spacing issues, so she did not want to start and everything had to come out again.
I quote the first guy: "Flex plate unit broke and caused damage to oil pump housing - leading to insufficient oil supply to clutch drums and therefore burning some clutches"

Hi, ja well if the CPS pick ups break off the car will never start. That just sucks paying twice for bad workmanship.

I'm going to visit my Disco in hospital (Overland Worx) tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to see how the auto gearbox works with the smoke and mirrors exposed.

So I got to do the hospital visit today. Overland Worx is one busy place but Peter and his guys took time to show me the disassembled gearbox as well as around the workshop.
The clutch packs were totally stuffed as expected with some of them having as good as no friction material left on them at all. While we were there the new spares arrived so it should all get reassembled and the gearbox refitted quite soon.
From what I have been able to find during my research into the possible causes of this type of damage, low oil level is the most likely culprit. When I bought the Disco, I was told that the gearbox had been previously serviced by some specialist about 6k km before. Soon after I got it I drained and serviced the oil in the box. The oil was full of friction material and the quantity was a lot less than it should have been. This is what I feel caused the failure of the gearbox.
I have faith that the work done now will allow me to have a good few more years of fun with the Disco.

I got a call from Peter early today giving me the good news that the Disco will be ready for collection on Monday, even though its a public holiday. They had refitted the gearbox and when testing it Peter wasn't happy with the way the torque converter was operating. They have stripped it all out again to replace the torque converter and will have it all sorted by Monday. The cost is still as per Peter's original quote of R12k even with the torque converter being replaced. This to me is service above and beyond. Thank you Peter and Overland Worx.
