WHat do you replace a Defender with?

SO here is my prediciament.
The Defender is bought and paid for, I've had it for about 7 years.
It has cost me quite a bit over the last year\year and a half to maintain.
I need to do the odd trail without bits falling off, need to tow the Jurgens Explorer Caravan comfortable (it's not that comfortable behind the defender) and it needs to take SWAMBO to work and the kids to school.
SWAMBO does not drive the Defender, she tried it once or twice and hates it.
I now need to buy a small bakkie or similar for the business as the defender is to heavy on juice and I do to much travveling.
At the moment I'm spending close to 6k on fuel on the defender a month.
The problem is the business hasn't been going for long enough to have a credit record so I can buy a small bakkie, so if I sell the Defender, use the cash to buy a good second hand small bakkie for the business and use some cash as a deposit on another 4x4 and buy that in my personal capacity.
Probably not going to be something new as I do not want to spend to much and not intersted in balloon payments and such.
What would I replace the Defender with? Or do I just carry on as is?
I'm open to suggestions

Difficult decision Chris. Manny will crucify you for wanting a small bakkie

Apparently a 1 ton or some sort of Caddy is better ?? But also very expensive !!
I really hope you get sorted !!

Why not keep the defender, buy the small bakkie/ runabout in your capacity, rent it to the business at whatever rate you agree with yourself and when the business is settled, sell it on to the business?

This makes brilliant business sense - unless you are itching to change

So... if I understand
1. The Defender does the towing & 4x4'ing & camping etc. - no problem there.
2. The Defender is also your daily drive - bit of an economy issue there.
3. The wife sometimes needs to use the Defender - but refuses to drive it - Big problem there.
Does the wife still have a car?
What happened to that Disco 1 V8 ?
What will you get for the Defender?
How much do you want to spend on the new bakkie?
Are you looking for something that will replace the Defender & be able to attend to 1, 2 & 3 above?

The Disco II V8 i borrowed for a weekend, my uncle sold it for R50 000, I was only willing to give R20000 as I knew what the issues where/are.
She does have the Chery QQ3 0.8 and it's still in the garage with a blown head gasket.
Should be able to get R150 000 or there about.
The small bakkie, about R80 000
Looking to replace the Defender that can do 1 and 3 and get rid of the POS in the garage with the blown head.
And get a small bakkie to do number 2.

Nothing, I have to take the kids to school then take her to work at the airport and then drive to Vereeniging.
Real pain at the moment

Tough predicament and I’m sure you have thought it through.
A Pajero diesel will do what you need, all three, and you can get a decent Gen3 for under R200k, even R150k if you shop around. Economy on the Benoni - Vereeniging run should give you 10.5L/100km average at the worst.
Problem solved.

The Pajero is a good option but I suspect the mileage might be on the highish side.
Or Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD or 3.6 Petrol.

What Defender is it? they seem to be getting worth more every day.
You can't replace a Defender. you can only get something different.
Ditch the **spit** Chery and buy the bakkie. tell the missus to man up, get her clutch leg in order and drive the defender until you can get something else.
