Good resale D4??
I just drove behind a D5 again. And I can't help think that the D4 must have good resale value because of the hideous D5.
Will people hold onto their D4’s longer?
Your thoughts?

Had drinks with Gasman last Thursday. He has a D4.
Standing for 4 months with two blown Turbo's.
R75k to fix.
I wouldn't take a D4 if you gave it to me...

The only Landys with good resale are the D2’s & any Defender. The D3/4 & D5 escalated the value of the D2’s which are a great buy. The older D1 could have been good but was built by retarded communists.
It’s a pity that Land Rover no longer make 4x4’s.

There are peculiar similarities between buying a D4 and investing in a pyramid scheme.

There are reasons to hold onto D3/4's, but resale value is not one of them.
I drive one because of my back, and happened on a limited edition when I was in the market.
SWAMBO drives a D4 purely because she wants to.
Would I buy one as an investment, No, because it is not.

I think as time and tech move forward cars, esp big 4*4s, are generally getting hugely more complex especially from the electrical & engine management aspects etc ... they cost more to buy and maintain and they fast depreciate and are generally shorter lived.
D3,D4 and D5 have been overambitious forays by LR but they are no doubt evolving and improving and slowly sorting out the problems, structural transformation ... on the other forum theres a lot of negative revelation on the Amarok, Ranger etc ... LR were , as always, first into the mud!
Older style simplicity and limited tech innovation is safer and leads to longer life, easier maintenance... and higher resale value...
Toyota still make very old cars ... think about it.
Here in Joburg good auto-sparkys who can deal with modern day complexity, are rarer than tortoise feathers ... ask the big workshops.
Days of ‘Good Re-Sale Value’ are passing although there will always relative differences.

Just be careful driving behind a D3 / 4 / 5 - you might get a crank through the windscreen.....
Executive cars in that bracket never have good resale value. The D5 is indeed the blandest looking thing since the old Fortuner - in fact, it looks identical to the old Fortuner from the side. Obviously, from the back, it looks like a Fortuner that had a stroke.... but that just means the Soccer Mommies will buy something else for the same money - it won't prop up the older model!
I think as soon as the new Defender comes out, which seems to be indistinguishable from the D3/4 they might get a bit of a boost as people can then buy them for the missus and pass them off as a newer car...
