If you get a Duster, make sure you get a 2016+ Model.

The ones before that came from India, and were absolute garbage.

Engine-wise, look at the Diesel 4x4 or the Diesel automatic. That Autobox and Engine combo is sublime.

Hi Erin. What would you like to know about the Duster? Diesel is great on fuel, but services are more expensive than petrol, but the Diesel is just so awesome. More power than you would expect from a 1500.

Is the diesel reliable? I can probably stretch the budget to a 2016 model.

What would the average service cost?

Consumption will be important so I’m leaning towards the diesel, assuming that the service costs don’t outweigh the savings on fuel.

What do you want to use it for?

Disco Nicks dad didn’t buy him one so he doesn’t know if it’s garbage or not.

There’s nothing wrong with the Indian ones. Mines a 2015 with over 150kkm. I give it loads of abuse & have hammered it.

Don’t bother with the petrol. It’s a good motor but slow. The diesels are fantastic.

Fuel consumption on mine is in the 7’s per 100km. But I’ve wider tyres which increased the consumption by around 10% & I do have a heavy foot. Most other owners report far better consumption than mine.

Services are cheap less than R2k for a routine service. Parts are very reasonable, for example wiper blades are R120 each. Cambelt swap at 90kkm was only R3500.

Great vehicles. I’ll buy another one.

Look at the Automatic.

I forgot to mention, have the shocks checked on the 2014/5. I believe that there must have been a faulty batch.

Ultimately I fitted Monroe’s instead.

Correct. Because before 2016 they are garbage.

I believe it was you who said that the facelift one was better in ever way than yours?

The auto will cost as much as the AWD so you may as well get the AWD, but they are manual only - 6 speed with low 1st. I don’t use 1st on the roads, only off-road.

It is. But I was referring to the refinements. There were many improvements

I traded mine at 158 800 Km. Average servicing cost is around R2 500. Cam belt cost me around R9 000. never had a problem with it. I did mostly long tribe between Pretoria. Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Upington etc. and my average fuel consumption came to around 16km/L, I do however have to say that I wasn't driving slow.
I only traded it as I wanted something with a bigger motor that could pull more than 1 Ton.

R9k sounds like it was the total service cost including the belt? My cambelt change portion was only R3500
