-The price is out and at R786K, it's more affordable than a Merc X Class and a VW Amarok V6.

-It comes standard with 33"Rubber and a FOX Suspension. The first thing bakkie owners do when they drive off the showroom floor, is to spend R50K on tires and suspension, so there is already a R50K "saving"
-It comes standard as a Raptor. No need to spend another R10K-R20K on plastic shit to make your Ranger look like a Raptor

No:

-The 2 Liter engine. No thanks. Not for me
-2,5 Ton Towing capability.
- It'll be a beast on gravel and in the dunes. I think it will struggle on technical 4x4 routes
- I don't think it will fit into my garage

Yes. It’s a clever package & I can’t see why it wouldn’t do well on a trail. It’ll be class leading.

It's big. I 4x4'd with a Ranger and it was hard work. Tight corners would be a problem

All bakkies are kak off-road owing to them being nothing more than adapted delivery vehicles. The wheelbases are too long & rear departure angles are silly. Then their front & rear suspension configurations are the worst possible option.

So the Ranger Raptor is no worse than any other bakkie. But, the standard mods will set it apart & make it better. Especially the rear coil set up.

One thing not mentioned in any of the advertising is the fact that the addition of 33’s tyres will likely be accompanied by correct gear ratios, which is something that bakkie buyers never do when modifying their bakkies with bigger rubber. Especially Saffers.

So in the real world that 500Nm will be felt, unlike your regular run of the mill Hilux with bigger tyres accompanied by the resultant reduction in power.

Correct ratios is a very underrated modification & it’s mainly the Jeep guys that bother fixing their ratios.

The best example I experience was when I tested a few TJ’s before & after a ratio correction. It was chalk & cheese. The improvement in traction is massive.

So there’s no reason why the Ranger won’t out perform any other bakkie.

Other than that , it’s probably the best bet for a leisure twincab on the market. It will certainly come in less than anything else with the additional gear added as aftermarket goodies.

But if it looks like that it needs some guts .

I think the 132kw version D/C is quite good value for money.

I think 2.0 is too small for a diesel - especially in a big vehicle. Diesel is great for stonking great big trucks and trains and ships and so on. but as a puny 2.0l they come up short in my opinion.

something like a Raptor needs a bit of urge behind it to really make it fun. loads of on demand torque.
