My Hilux 2.4 has also lost power and consumption as it nears 100 000.

You did not mention millage or age of your problems starting.

I have no sympathy for people who buy a Navara, Ranger or Hilux over a D-Max...
I had a look at the D-Max yesterday.

I can get a new 3,0lt auto 4x4 D/C for 509k or a new 2,0lt Ranger 4x4 (single turbo) for 560k.

No issue that the D-max is a good bakkie and that it will get the job done. But the engine and interior feels outdated.

The Ranger feels solid and the 2,0lt engine, mated with that 10 speed auto, is a peach. But this engine is new to the market and is yet to prove itself. Specs look good 132kw and 420NM.

The Hilux looks like good value. To buy one would be a cardinal sin in my household. Plus, if you buy a Hilux, it comes standard with a light minded boxer dog. I have enough light minded dogs.

The triton and fullback is just ugly.

You spelt 'tried & tested' wrong.
But go for new & unproven again.
It worked for you last time!

I used to have a lot of respect for Datsun.
My brother had a 1600 SSS.
Could never get those carbs balanced properly - but it went like rampaging EFF supporters in a cafeteria.

On the 19th of September 1982 Datsun changed to Nissan in SA.
The Datsun Skyline became a Nissan Skyline.
Guys driving Skylines had the headlights fall out & the dash drop onto thei laps.

The company was in decline.

We had a 2.5D Hardbody. We also had a Hilux 2.4D - the Toyota's superiority was staggering.

Toyota refused to buy Nissan.

So like a cheap whore, they offered themselves to anyone.

The decline continued when a French Leb got Renault to buy it.

That's like Azerbaijan buying Germany.

Renault then raped Nissan of it's tech while managing to make Nissan it's bitch even though it was a tie up of equals.

Many Renaults are just re-badged Nissans.

They then made the blunder of bringing back the Datsun name & slapping it in the Kwid/Go! - the biggest heap O shite made in the new millennium...

Other than the patrol & a few exceptions like the Pulsar & Stanza & more recently, the Qashqai, Nissan hasn't made many vehicles worth buying since PW was our finger wagging President...

The Navara/X-Class/Alaskan is a prime symptom of the decline of Nissan, especially under the Alliance.

In SA the Nissan Off Road Club (NORC) collapsed, there is a reason the Patrol guys call themselves Patrol guys & not Nissan Patrol guys.
I don't know of a single Nissan fan (other than Reenen) & I even know two guys who think Mahindras are awesome.

But now that the Renault/Nissan/Dacia Alliance is in tatters & Nissan has had Carlos the Jackal arrested, they can possibly start turning the company around - but I doubt it.

Pulsar??!! The first REALLY kak car built by Datsun/Nissan and the last REALLY kak vehicle sold in SA.

It was on par with the Austin Marina and Dodge Avenger in the kak-stakes!
