Lada Bronto

Post by XJ Junkie »

These factory modified Lada Niva‘s can be bought like this off the showroom floor in Russia.

It’s basically an upgraded version of the regular Lada 4x4. It’s specs include:

- 29 inch mud tyres on 15 inch wheels
- much lower gearing - 4.1
- more ride height - 240mm
- upgraded drive shafts
- reinforced rear axle
- upgraded suspension with increased front travel.
- LSD front & rear
- winch bracket

They can even be ordered with a choice of 17 camouflage paint jobs.

It appears that the price in Russia would be in the equivalent of R120k.

It’s a pity that they don’t make them in RHD because they are pretty cool.

They were always cool, and capable, even if the original motor was a touch rattly.

A freshening up certainly helps a lot. I wouldn't want to have an accident in one unless they've seriously changed the body design though!

In all honesty, I'd say I'd rather have one of these than a Thar though!

Power is 63 kw & 129Nm, so it’s about the same as the Jimny. Top speed is only about 140 kph. But it’s got a 4.1 drive so top speed in low range would probably be no more than 35 kph .

But with a little bit of Russian collusion, there’s a Lada shop in Moscow that sell a 0.7 boost Supercharger kit which they reckon increases the power by 100%.

It’s best not to crash it. Apparently the glove box lid is lethal.

That Bronto might very well be the perfect toy. Cheap. And some short comings like IFS. But difflocks. One might sharpen up one's driving skills with a 4x4 like that.

Chris the locker is just LSD, but it looks like it’s on both axles on the Bronto. The regular Lada seemingly only has LSD on the rear.

But there’s a proper centre lock like a Defender. So you can run it open in low range on tar.

I noticed that there’s a fundamental functionality issue with this Bronto. Let’s see who notices it first & can thus declare themselves as clever as me Image.
