V8 Diesel or petrol?

At some stage I want to upgrade the Hilux to a more comfortable and more powerful tow vehicle.
Currently if I travel long distance in the Evoque I am not tired and sore but climbing out of the Hilux over that same distance, I am broken.
I had the 120 Prado V6 petrol and I don't like that engine. You have to wring its neck to get performance.
Cruising is just plain and simple ncomfortable. Towing it is so much concentration to keep the box in the right gear.
I was driver for some one who had a 500gl and it was a lot better use of the power.
The SRT Jeep I drove was crazy but not for me.
I just love the way a diesel can cruise at 120 at below 2000 revs and still have enough torque for uphills. Coupled to a decent auto box it's a pleasure to drive.
So for me the Prado is out due to only a small diesel and I don't like the v6 engine.
So now what is left your big Vw audis and Rang rover TDV8. Or V8 petrol.
What would you rather use if you regularly have to tow heavy for 1000km each way.
Comfort and towing without stressing motor is biggest requirement.

Your best bet is a Land Rover Discovery 4 TDV6. Excellent tow vehicle.

Ditto what Andrew asked
And if you are going to tow a lot, then diesel is your answer.
But I won’t buy a 200 Cruiser. It’s been said that its one of the worst vehicles for 2018

TDV8
The V8 petrol has plastic T piece that tends to go at the most inopportune time.
If you do go for the V8 petrol there is a place HDS in Strydom park has the parts required to change it Brass

T piece can be changed before every trip.
Not feasible to change the crank every time you go on a tour

My father in law had the previous V8 200VX - it was massively heavy on fuel but towed like a dream. Has the newer 200VX diesel now and prefers it. Although he did have hassles in Bots and has to change the fuel filter every 1000km.

Ok so I did not get a V8.Petrol or Diesel.
I Ordered a 2018 Amarok V6, should be available in August.
A family member works for VWSA so I get a huge family discount from the factory on ex lease vehicles.
In the end the Amarok was my choice due to.
Price!
V6 165 kw
Comfort
Permanent 4x4
Auto
Bakkie
So i will still dream of a TDV8 or V8 Touareg but those were beyond my current budget, if I wanted nearly new.

Yeah, they are finicky, maybe a UDF might be a good option

Good choice Hannes. Perma smile installed every time I drive it. Average fuel consumption 8,6 km/ liter, but that’s ‘cos it’s some much fun driving it...[emoji3] As jy baie perde onder die bonnet wil hê, moet jy bereid wees om hulle te voer, so 8,6 km/ liter pla my glad nie.

It's possibly worth noting that Ford recently released a huge pushrod petrol V8 for their bigger trucks.
Apparently, Diesel might get the results for the emissions and consumption tests, but in the real world, the big haulers in the US find them heavy on fuel and maintenance compared to a petrol.
A petrol V8 makes all the torque you want at the bottom end isn't working overly hard either.
A Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi will give you little trouble and very good consumption.
