Yesterday I had some time and I watched almost all the Youtube videos on Rivian.
They seem to have their ducks in a row.

Won`t work for me. Will get me divorced. Think a trip to Van Zyls Rus would be a disaster . Will force me to spend 4 to 6 hours in the famous Van Zyls pup waiting for a recharge.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D

There’s of course massive limitations of EV overlanders. They just won’t work out in remote places.

But there’s massive advantages with 4x4 EVs, like:

- huge torque all the way from 1 rpm
- flat bottom chassis
- low CG
- epic wheel travel
- don’t need lockers. I don’t think there’s a traditional diff?
- big ground clearance
- etc

I’ve already thrown my toys out of the cot on the other lectric thread!

The first 4x4 was indeed a hybrid electric, built in 1904 and it makes sense to this day!

However, the bulk of electricity on this planet is still produced by internal combustion, so why bother with conversion inefficiency if you can just combust on demand? It negates the need for a noxious storage device i.e. battery

So Quack, are you saying:
Get rid of the gearbox and drivetrain,
Connect a genny to the back of engine, add cables to the motors in the wheels, through whatever and however they are connected to the chassis,
And benefit off the many torques available?

I know that is simplified, but everyone is drooling over the torque...

Flipside great idea, works very well on trains!

But the true offroader prefers the torque to be an unpredictable monster, it needs to catch you off guard! It has to direct itself to the wheel that is momentarily airborne!

What the hell, it needs to cover your mates in mud from roof to rockslider!

Electric motors deliver linear torque, imagine replacing your throttle (at 6000rpm) with an on off switch?

You will have incredible acceleration, but somehow I don’t think it will work!

Neil drives like this - engine revs either at idle or bouncing off the limiter 8-) :D
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it
