2020 Ford Bronco

Now I’ve seen renderings of what they believe it would look like. Renderings where the nose looks like the F150. This would be totally wrong.

The Bronco of yesteryear had round headlights and not headlights like the F150. So that rendering can go to the bin.

I’ve also read somewhere that it is believed, when looking at the 2020 Bronco under covers, the outlines resemble that of the Everest. How dumb are you if you believe the Bronco would look like the Everest?

This video is probably the most accurate speculation I’ve seen of the 2020 Bronco and I for one cannot wait for the covers to be lifted.

Chances are we would see it in SA

The first Toyota FJ was based on a slightly shortened Prado 120.
The 2nd FJ had the Prado 150 front suspension set up.

So, under the skin, the FJ is a shortened Prado

The Bronco, likewise, will be based on the Everest underpinnings.

The Bronco was based on the F-series trucks, from the second generation onwards and will probably continue to be based on a shortened F-150 chassis. The Everest is based on an evolution of the Mazda B-series chassis :roll:

The last-generation Bronco was based on the F-150, but Ford product head Joe Hinrichs told us the 2020 will be based on the new Ranger. Someone claiming to be a Ford designer on Reddit said that the Bronco will be similar to the Everest, a Ranger-based SUV sold in other markets.

Former Ford Chief Technical Officer Raj Nair, however, contradicted that assertion—he said the new Bronco will be a unique vehicle, not a reworked Everest. Size-wise, he said we expect something smaller than the original Bronco but bigger than the 1980s Bronco II. And if you're worried the new Bronco will be a glorified Explorer, don't be. He followed it up by saying "people have an idea of what a Bronco should be. Certainly, we have an idea of what a Bronco should be, and we're going to be looking forward to bringing that to our customers."

The Ford Bronco is a model line of SUVs that were manufactured and marketed by Ford from 1966 to 1996. After the first generation of the Bronco was introduced as a competitor to compact SUVs (including the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout), the succeeding four generations of the Bronco were full-size SUVs, competing against the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger. The first Bronco was assembled using its own chassis[2], while the full-size Bronco was derived from the Ford F-Series (F-100, later F-150) pickup truck; all Broncos were produced with four-wheel drive powertrains.

The 2nd generation (1978-79) Bronco was based on a shortened 6th generation F100, the entire front clip is indistinguishable, also sharing chassis and driveline. It had a removable top and forward folding rear bench seat. For 1978, Broncos were equipped with round headlights, with the exception of the Ranger XLT trim model. For 1979, all Broncos came standard with square sealed beam headlights. Engines; 351 or 400 cu in V8s

Thys, Manny is correct. It’ll be based on the Everest platform.

If they want to sell it globally then it’s the only way that makes it viable.

You are probably right about the underpinnings, but the look can never be the same as the F150.

The new Ford Bronco may have been busted.

An odd-looking vehicle was spotted on the streets of Detroit that could be a test “mule” for the upcoming, but yet-to-be-revealed SUV.

The black and white-camouflaged truck combined the modified front half of a Ford Ranger SuperCab with an extremely short bed wearing a cap. Its wheelbase was significantly shorter than the production Ranger’s, with the rear wheels tucked right up against the cab and barely any overhang behind them. It was wearing a serious set of off-road tires and a front bash plate, which is exactly what you’d expect to find on a reboot of Ford’s most legendary SUV.

It also has an independent front suspension, while the rear one is covered by a fringe. The Ranger features a solid rear axle, but it’s possible that the Bronco could break with tradition and go with an IRS, as Land Rover is doing with its new Defender. Vehicles like this are a typical part of the development process and allow automakers to test drivetrains and underpinnings before a design is finalized.

The overall size of the truck looks very similar to that of the two-door Jeep Wrangler, and while Ford hasn’t confirmed that there will be a two-door version of the Bronco when it debuts next year, a Toyota FJ Cruiser-style setup, with rear-opening half-doors like the Ranger SuperCab offers, is a strong possibility.

The only official image Ford has revealed so far shows a boxy vehicle covered by a sheet with roughly the same proportions as the mystery machine. Ford probably won’t pull that wraps off of the production version until much later this year, if not next, but what it has officially revealed so far is that it will be built alongside the Ranger at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne and will offer a selection of powertrains that includes a hybrid option.
