What’s the reliability like on these? Because it looks ok
My father has one (a two seater though but with the same engine) as a "plaas bakkie" that he uses for all sorts of errands. (Now he just needs a farm. ) He loves the thing and mechanically it has not given any hassles. (Now already over 100K km). His only complaint is on some electronics which weirdly works one day and not on another....

The 2.2 mhawk motors do not have a bad reputation at all. But there's more to a vehicle than the engine...

Do not know more unfortunately...

Thanks NEW. Yes, the MHawk engine is supposedly very good. I know that these are incredibly popular in India where they have a reputation for being fairly bulletproof. They seem to also be well regarded in Aus. I think the bakkie even has a locker.

Something called an "auto locker". What that means and how it works is a mystery to me....

Ah, it’s like a limited slip diff. Not that great but better than nothing. I think these days traction control works better.

2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4 Dune R 168,500 for sale ǀ Auto Trader. - https://www.autotrader.co.za/cars-for-s ... tara/65915

For a bit more... the manual Grand Vitara is reliable and tows well. And this is 2013 model.

You can get cheaper... but I would not go for anything before 2010 in case of possible engine block issues.

Isn’t the Dune the one without traction control?

Neil to the best of my knowledge the Dune does not have ESP while the Summit does. So for playing in dunes Image the Dune is the better choice. You can get a manual Summit too.

Strangely, it doesn’t actually say if either have traction control or not. I seem to recall that they don’t.

You certainly wouldn’t want ESP in the dunes anyways. But the absence of TC wouldn’t make either viable.

you're probably right... I don't have experience with the Dune. My 10 year old pre face-lift has everything Image

... and yes confirmed with a current owner, the Dune does not have TC , just the centre diff lock and 4LL.
