not liking the H1 is comparable to not liking sex. the only people that don't want one right now are pillow biters
the H2 was built on bastardised Chev chassis - Truck rear half and pick up front half, A bit like a mullet. I think they were made for drug dealers.
the H3 was a rebooked chev silverado - basically a Mommy wagon. but, they did fit some decent running gear. big diffs, 4:1 reduction, decent V8. the slot like windows I never liked, and all the chrome, but its a fairly good off-roader with minor mods.
when you start talking to the true enthusiasts they will even prefer the Military HMMWV to the GM H1
but on my bucket list to own and enjoy is a H1 Alpha slantback, H2T, and H3T alpha

mate of mine has 3 hummer H1s locally as well as access to another dozen military and civilian spec ones in UAE which are often bought here on carnet as movie props.

actually.
the Civilian ones aren't much better.
but they are bloody cool!
he's a lucky bugger
in short the Mil spec is much more robust and had a higher payload etc, where the H1 civilian was "reduced" to have a chasis to give way during an accident and softer ride etc
bwhahaha, that masochist that designed the seat took inspiration from a cement park bench

I have a prediction that the value of Hummers are going to soar in the next few years. It always happens when specialist or iconic brands are discontinued.
Initially the price drops, but then goes up again as they gain rarity & gain even more of a cult following.
The fact that new 4x4s are getting softer will also help its status as an off-roader.
Disclaimer: Uninformed, no research, just very strong opinions

Well I have been quoted R14k per tire for my next size upgrade. Starting to contemplate switching over to 17" H2 mags instead of keeping to the 16" H3 mags

I recently ceased my association with LR after 20 years and scratched a 10 year itch with a 2009 H3 5.3lt V8. Its the manic love child between a Range Rover and a Rat Rod. 4H with TC, 4H with central lock, 4L with central, front and rear locks, as standard. Its built very solid and after 9 years, no rattles or squeaks. I cant even hear the windscreen wiper motor or the blades on the window which I could in the RR.
Interior space is smaller than the RR even though it looks bigger on the outside and the boot is about half the size. The aftermarket accessories are hard to get but are still available, like the ARB Bullbar. Front Runner have roof-racks in stock. The local Hummer Club is vibrant and very helpful and not stodgy as the LR one. You can get service parts, servicing, diagnostics all from Club Members as well as heaps of advice on the Club Whatsapp virtually 24/7.
So far, I am very happy with it and I should have made the move a number of years ago. I did look at one in 2008 when they had the free Harley special on but I didnt proceed for various reasons, but nothing to to with the Hummer. If you are looking for something different with tons of capability then the Hummer is definately something to consider. There is usually @ 20 H3 3.7lt and the odd V8 on Autotrader within the R120K to 240K range, depending on mileage. For offroad, you would probably look at the Adventure package, not the luxury. The H3 is permanent 4x4 and the design just begs you to bolt stuff to it, one of those SUV designs where it doesnt look odd or spoil the overall appearance.
I would actually not mind driving one back to back with the FJ. As far as I can remember, the H3 had leafs in the back?? I would be very interested to feel the different suspensions on the SUV's. ( can I even call them SUV's?)

Major revival.. And yes i know, first post.. But there's sich scarce information about Hummer in SA. I've recently purchased a H3, and needing a mechanic in the Durban area if anyone can be of assistance. Also in need of some parts, willing to pay for courier from anywhere in SA. Much appreciated guys.. Or if there's any other forum/group I can get on with Hummer owners that would be great
