Saturday 25th May 2024, we set off for a Sundowner at Theo Martinspoort (along the R80) Mabopane highway. Small crew, only 5 vehicles came through. 2 were pure virgins who never used Low Range gearing before. of the 2, unfortunately one was a Lexus V8 Conversion, which is a bit of a disaster, a permanent 4x4 running only High range open diffs.

I explored a Lexus conversion when I had a Defender 110 station wagon with the 3.5L Rover V8: at the end of the day, a Lexus / Toyota 1UZ-FE would have needed far too much work, and I could have dropped a nice Isuzu 3.2 TDi into the Defender for half the price and half the effort.

On paper, they're not bad, but they are really not a proper V8. If I was that Hummer owner, I would have dropped in a 5.7L Chrysler Hemi with an adapter for the 4L60 box. There are kits available, and the Hemi engine is available out of scrapped WK Grand Cherokees.

Thanks for the report LX.
Is it a small Hummer group that you belong to?

We actually have 94 members, not everyone participates.
Most are there for the maintenance and technical brain pool.

Sounds like a better option.
