The Rise & Plateauing of EV sales

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

Last year EV sales rose to 14% of total sales.
That means that 86% of vehicles sold included an Internal Combustion Engine.
Tesla was founded 21 years ago & Musk took over 20 years ago.
BYD sells more EVs than Tesla.

Toyota, the worlds biggest vehicle manufacturer has scaled back it's EV plans.

Mazda launched an EV, it sold so poorly they replaced it with a ICE vehicle which sells better.

Last week Mercedes Benz rolled back it's EV program & said they'll pour more effort into ICE R&D.
Their shares ROSE 6% as a result of this announcement.

The state of Ohio does not produce enough electricity to charge the EV trucks were the state to convert all it's trucking to EV's.

It seems to me that EV growth will slow & peak at around 25 to 33% globally.
Obviously, some countries, particularly smaller European countries with advanced infrastructure, may see EVs reach a far higher adoption %.

Remember, in many countries, especially Europe & the UK, EV growth has largely been due to legislative pressure rather than actual market demand.

Thanks for the info Manny.
Cargo ships are causing the biggest emissions problems in the world followed closely by aeroplanes.
Closely followed in third by Eskom

That's what needs to be fixed.

Trusted (!) twitter feed, provided …
Estimated EVs % of new vehicle sales in 2024:

China: 35%
Europe: 25%
Global average: 19%
US: 11%

… and batteries are huge cost and value component
in EVs that vehicle manufacturers will struggle to establish monopoly power and profits… battery market will
become more competitive and battery prices will continue to fall as supply from increasing number of producers increases

China brought a coal fired power station online every week last year. Some 50 of them. South Africa has the 2nd biggest coal/diesel fired power station in the world. (when it runs) The green agenda is a first world dilemma /discussion. The 3rd world doesn't care.

You are correct & even the 1st World is scaling back their Energy Transition plans.

Just a side note, that roll out of coal fired power stations was a few years ago & they were generally smaller power stations, nonetheless, they did roll out over 50, as you said...

We won't see the end of coal in our lifetimes. The EuroNazis have lost their minds.

As I understand it, we are likely too late already to stop the demise of the planet. I.e. we cannot stop reaching the tipping point being predicted.
So, we might as well just voeter-foort. Time will tell.

A friend of mine got his wife a Volvo hybrid.
I was amazed at how clever that car is, and very fuel efficient.
So if EVs decline, is the future not perhaps just MUCH more efficient hybrids?

The future is fossil fuels for 84% of the planet.
