Possibly V6 instead of V8...hmm
The problem I see is that the v8 (like the TB48 before it) has significant upgrade potential.
Once you go the v6 route, the manufacturer I suspect pretty much makes the engine sweat as hard as possible, within reliability parameters.
So you wont get those turbo'd / blower monsters any longer.

I don`t think everyone is into modifying vehicle engines. Yes engine conversions and upgrades are big amongst the Patrol crowd. But you seldom see these monsters on overland trips. In the end 90% of potential buyers won`t even miss the Y62 V8

That is true. Merc and BMs had fuel injected cars in the seventies.
My 1993 Patrol still has a manual choke...and those models still had a choke until 1996.
