Calling the Disco 4 'Kenners..."

I have a question or two about towing with the Discovery 4.
I'm going on a trip where Fearless is staying home, but I'm taking Gearless.
We will be towing with a 2010 D4 SE.

I noticed that the Disco's sill U shaped tow hitch is nearly 100mm (10cm/4 inches) lower than the tow ball ob the mighty Fearless.
On hitching up, the front of the trailer is waaaay too low. The Jockey wheel is almost touching the ground when fully raised.

Next thing, I have a Brad Harrison point at the back of Fearless & one on Gearless. Both are connected directly to the respective batteries (fused on Fearless).
No DC to DC charger or Solenoid or other unnecessary k@k.
So I'd need to fit a similar cable to the Disco, however I notice the Disco has TWO female 7 pin trailer plugs.
One white, one black. I asdsume the black is for the trailer - what isthe white one for?

My questions:
1. Can I just remove that stupid U & put a straight one on & if so, where do I get one?

2. Can I fit a Male trailer plug to my trailer in place of the Brad Harrison & use the white plug to charge the trailer battery?
If so, which two points are the positive & negative?

For point 2, and I know this will send the question down a rabbit hole. Should there a + and - terminal on the trailer plug you will have to make sure the wires are thick enough to carry the current to your Trailers battery especially when the battery is at a low level…

You can get the owner to buy Johnson rods to lift his D4 . That should take care of the towhitch problem . 8-)

Even at the highest setting it's too low.
And ideally we dont want to drive at the highest setting...
Maybe Johnson Rods AND the highest setting....

This thread is fake news.

There is no way a 13 year old Diesel Disco is still in good running order.

Serviced every 6 months. Excellent running condition. And I drive it like a Pro not an old lady , Kurt.

Manny, Google is your friend.
Peter had the answer to the towbar height problem in this thread on the forbidden forum.

You are going to have to do your trailers electric supply properly and add a DC-DC charger.

I have a solution that’ll solve ALL Disco 4 issues.

Buy a box of matches, a liter of petrol, then you set it alight, and then call Raymond.

For the wiring in the two plugs, refer to this thread. https://images.app.goo.gl/y2P6mpzAG62W3SM96

Thanks Paul, I recall it being discussed there, but I struggle with the Search function on that site...

Fir the towball. You get a offroad towball.

The white plug looks exactly the same but the center pin is reversed. 15A permanent supply and a 15A switched supply (with ignition).

I've seen adapter fitting that goes from the white one to Brad Harrison but don't know if 15A is enough to charge the second battery. IIRC this supply also has a fuse so I would not plug it in if the battery on Gearless is flat. But you should be able to have this connector made up quite easily.

Alternatively you can just run one directly from the battery with a fuse to the tow bar. Did this on my Disco 3 without any issues.

SueAnn will discuss these issues with Overlandworx.
Be nice to avoid running another cable all the way to the back.
