Time for a new 4x4, but since I have to use my own money I am limited to a budget of 600k-650k. Has to be 4x4. Has to be Auto. SUV or Bakkie doesn’t matter.
Have spent a lot of time looking around a weighing up my options and have come up with the following:
Toyota Fortuner 2.4 4x4 Auto - this makes ALOT of sense.
Pro:
Powerful enough, capable enough, and reliable enough, unlike Rico4e, Pupkewitz in Namibia loves me so backup is not an issue.
Rear Aircon is a big Plus!
LED lights are very good at night and for long distance driving.
Front and rear parking sensors with a decent camera
Cons:
Warranty is shit! - 3 years
Not the most comfortable to sit in/drive… I’m not a big guy, but I felt cramped.
Ride didn’t impress me that much.
Toyota Hilux 2.4 4x4 Auto
Pro:
same as the Fortuner, really.
Cons:
feels even more cramped than the Fortuner… I’m surprised such a big Bakkie is so small inside.
N$600k for a 4x4… What can you buy?

Nissan Terra 2.5 4x4 AT
Pro:
Good looking vehicle, seems capable enough and is quite spacious inside.
Cons:
Nissan being Nissan, brought 70 of those in and then cancelled the model because they sold them all too quickly.
Navara 2.5 4x4 A/T LE
Pro:
That 2.5 Diesel is a gem, and works well with the 7 Speed box.
Africa Models in Namibia come with rear leaf springs, ride is a bit firmer than coil sprung model, but not too bad.
Cloth Seats… leather in Africa makes no sense
6-year Warranty + Decent backup in Namibia and South Africa.
Cons:
Interior feels very dated
No light adjustment! It’s 2022, how can you not have height adjustments for your headlights? End up blinding traffic no matter what you do.
At 685k,it’s just out of my price range.
Pro:

Pro:
Probably the most comfortable Bakkie I’ve driven…
Spacious inside, interior feels very well put together
2.2l works well with the 6-Speed Auto
With the new Ranger coming, dealership seems keen to flog them at decent discounts
Cons:
It’s a Ford…
It’s expensive. Not as feature rich as the others, so value proposition is a bit difficult to justify.
It’s got a 4 year warranty
No rear Camera
Didn’t look at an Everest. Too expensive and too ugly.
Pro:

Was actually surprised by the comfort that it offers
2.2 mHawk + gearbox actually surprised me…
Cons:
But it felt really pap at higher speeds and especially when towing.
M&Z in Namibia is k@k…
Fit and Finish isn’t great, and the Radio feels like an afterthought.

Not trying to be negative, as I said I really like the Fortuner… it makes a lot of sense.
But I ended up getting a GWM… has more cons than pros, but in the end money talks. 😁

Once it arrives I’ll start the requisite “GWM as a Viable 4x4 Alternative” thread when the thing arrives. :lol:
But I’ll expand on the other 4x4 I tested before that happens.
