I'm desperately trying to justify a F250 as a viable platkar.

I looked at one yesterday (dear God I actually was at a Toyota dealership  ) with my wife.

Well specced and decent space, but I just do not like it's stance or looks.

If you buy a vehicle for it’s looks……then wellβ€¦πŸ€£

I do roughly 2000kms per month.

The FJ’s fuel bill would be almost R8500 per month with fuel at R25 per liter.
The Cross is more or less R2500 per month

R6000 a month saving on fuel alone as things stand.

Will I buy another FJ in future? Hell yes

I just did a 1200km round trip from Cape Town to Uniondale via George to participate in the Karoo2Coast Mountain Bike race. (Yes I know you guys think I’m awesome).

The vehicle managed 17.5km per liter which is way down from the 20 odd kms per liter I get in town.

Mike, not being nasty but 17.5km per liter is NOT GOOD.

Thats my opnion.
I drive a Pos.
I get more than that.
Even the Ecosport 1.5 tdci gets better as does the Renault dci.

I had a BMW 320d that I sold in 2010 to buy Fearless.
On open road trips I got over 20km/L.
Over the years that I owned it I averaged over 15km/L overall.

With it's 60L tank I could get double the range that the Toyota Corolla Cross gets.

Remember, also, I'm Jo'burg based at altitude - Mike is Cape based, so a Jo'burg owner wouldnt get as low a consumption as Mike gets in that breathless naturally aspirated motor.

If you want great consumption a small diesel is the answer....

The Renault Duster diesel would be a far better option vs the Cross Hybrid.

Mike done fcuked up...

10 and a half months of ownership and it just ticked over to 20000kms. It's an absolute pleasure to drive.

Imagine doing 20000kms in the FJ in 10 odd months. The fuel bill would have bankrupted me

It was ultimately the right choice.

Can confirm. Sitting at an average of 5.7l/100km with my Duster EDC over the last 35kkm… and I have a heavy foot.

Also, the Cross Hybrid has a 32l Tank vs the 55l on the Duster. I regularly see 900-1000km per tank on long roads.
