Quite promising... A lot of energy required to produce the Hydrogen (and most of that is by burning fossil fuels)... However Greta's shouting and the EU listening is forcing manufacturers in this direction to combat the range issue off EV's

Not going to talk about a stupid concept. You mentioned the issues. Unless they can use solar for the conversion, it's a stupid idea with a worse energy conversion than oil.

So it seems like a given that the next Fortuner (and most likely Hilux) will have a Hybrid option.

Something I'll definitely consider if the diesel unit on it's own has sufficient punch on it's own (independent of the battery). Mixed reporting coming from different sources but it currently looks like the 2.4 2GD-FTV (current 2.4 Diesel engine) will be used with a 48V mild hybrid system. Definitely something I can get behind.

Would be interesting to see if there are companies that will "break" in to these batteries. Where you can run accessories like a fridge or other appliances from this system instead of having a separate 12V system installed
