Let’s talk about Hybrids

#1

Post by Mike Nel »

It’s getting here quicker and quicker.

I mentioned in another thread that Toyota would have Hybrid technology on it’s showroom floor within every model by 2025.

The link above is the new Sequoia and yes it’s available as a Hybrid. It’s based on the Tundra, so just a matter of time before that is Hybrid as well.

Would be interesting to see power and fuel consumption in the Cruiser 300 when the Hybrid pulls in next year.

Hybrids I can live with, the extra torque of the electric motor is always welcome.
But EV's won't work for me for the foreseeable future.

BTW: The LC300, the Lexus LX 600, the Tundra and the Sequoia all run on the same floorplan with the same motors and 10 speed boxes.

The top ones, in the US, get the Hybrid...

I am with Manny on this one.

I can settle for a hybrid. Eventually.

But an EV makes no sense at this stage in my life.

Sorry - this will be my first and only post on this thread. I want to get my point of view clear but yet I've got no massive desire to talk about hybrids.

I'm sure one day I will probably be forced into considering hybrid or electronic vehicles...

But that time is not yet now...

And hopefully that will happen only after they pry my jerry-cans out of my cold, lifeless hands. There is no replacement for displacement.

The RAV4 Hybrid Prime was the fastest (0 - 100km/h) vehicle Toyota made in 2021.
It does the dash in 5.8 seconds.

The Toyota GR Supra is faster - but Toyota doesn't manufacture it.

However, in 2022 Toyota launched the GR Yaris, which does 0 - 100 in 4.8secs.

But, clearly, the Hybrid gives the RAV4 some serious shove.

Until an EV can make JHB to CT in under 12 hours - it's not an option for a country with long distances & a plundered Electricity Supply Company.

I'm thinking of going solar, grid tied initially, and then off grid when the grid fails.

So I could soon have a bunch of electrons with nowhere to go.

Hmmmm... fast charging station, and you drink a beer or 6 at the pub while we charge your EV.........

Isn't that what generally happens when you go to a pub for a toot?
