New 2022 Gen7 Isuzu launched

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

Isuzu SA has finally launched the 7th Generation Isuzu in SA.

SA got the Isuzu later than other markets as it will be locally built - but it will certainly be worth the wait!.

https://www.carmag.co.za/news/new-local ... a-pricing/

There are a whopping 23 models:
I've highlighted the 4x4 models that I feel will be best buys for users that are not posers.

3.0 Ddi Double Cab V-Cross HR A/T R760,100.00
3.0 Ddi Double Cab V-Cross 4×4 A/T R814,700.00.

Isuzu South Africa has also pulled a 'CitiGolf/Tazz/Vivi/Quest' stunt by keeping five of the old Gen6 models.
So, for R350k, you can still get a Gen6 Isuzu S/Cab with that old indestructable 250D motor...
That motor is good for 1 million km if you look after it or 920000km if you abuse it! :D

That means there are 28 models to choose from...

By war of comparison, there are 34 derivatives of the Hilux (using 4 different motors) & 47 choices of Ranger in 3 different motors (well 4 if you feel the 2.0SiT & 2.0BiT are different)...

Just out of interest, to anyone turning their noses up at a 1.9 liter motor.
The legendary 3.0D-4D Toyota motor put out 120kW and 343Nm (@1400rpm)
the Isuzu 1.9 puts out 110kW and 350Nm (from 2000rpm to 2500rpm).

It has 6 cogs vs the D-4D only having 5 so you can keep it in the power band.
It's also very light on fuel, claims of nearly 14km/L...

Localisation:
The SA built D-Max's bakkies will differ from those sold elsewhere.
Changes include retuned suspension and dampers, a revised diff-lock, the fitting of all-terrain tyres, a new wiring harness and a loadbox made from thicker steel.

I have and always will have a moerse soft spot for Isuzu. And Manny you are wrong, if you abuse the 250 motor you'll get 950k km on it.

I have had my share of Isuzu`s. Hard working, solid vehicles turning out good consumption figures. In my book they have always lacked the Wow!!!
factor.

I inherited my late father's 2.5 fleetline.

I have yet to own another vehicle that starts as easily as that one did.

Whether it stood a day or three months - the barest touch of the key and it started right up.

It had 300k km on at that time.

But yes, they are honest, hard working vehicles that lack the WOW factor.

Yes, they lack the Wow! Factor!
Wow my bakkie was stolen last night!.
Wow! My turbo popped again!
Wow! I cant find spares anywhere!
Wow! My bakkie has zero resale value!

Isuzu's lack that.

But it certainly has the Wow! It's still going after all these years! Factor.

In what areas, specifically, is it behind the competition..?

I didn't understand Mike's post as it being behind the competition. I understood it that, similarly to Nissan ZA, ZA is so far behind the rest of the world. ie: Our first launch but a face-lift is already planned in Thailand. That is how I understood it at any rate...
