Sorry chaps - I was a little busy.

Ok so for starters Darrel is a really good bloke!

I had informed him that I would be there by 7am. I got there at 06:34 and he'd already arrived and was busy pulling out vehicles to make place for mine.

I strongly suspect that they usually only open at 8 so he came in earlier just to accomodate me....

Anyhow, yes his communication via phone/email is not of the best - he openly admitted this to me but his commitment cannot be faulted.

By 8am two other vehicles had joined the party and the guys got cracking.

Darrel got myself ,and a chap called Attie, together and gave us the grand tour.

It was obvious that he is an entertainer as he kept us busy for most of the time we were there.

I also think he suffers from ADD as he flits around the shop the whole time - from customer - employee - customer- vehicle - customer, keeping up a constant stream of chatter as he goes along.

I digress.

The upshot is that my leaf packs are good. They are under constant load but replacing them wouldn't change much. Old Man Emu's work this way.

My shocks were shot and all 4 replaced.

What I really appreciated about them was that I never once got the impression that they were out to try and make a sales target.

In fact quite the opposit.

the two other vehicles were a 3l D4D DC and a 200 Cruiser.

Both in for front suspension. The coils on both vehicles were tested and in the case of the D4D re-used . The technicians even picked up that the front brake linings and disc were shot and these were quickly replaced.

On my vehicle the shackle grease nipples were reolaced and greased - at no charge.

On the cruiser the shocks were serviced and coils replaced - iirc.

All in all a most pleasant experience. At around 11 Darrel said I should quickly drive with him and took me on a 30km (ish) journey just so that he could buy me the best steak roll in town.

And I believe it probably is!

Anyhow - I arrived as a customer and left as a friend.

My vehicle certainly handles way better. Going up was a little dodgy as there is a bit of play on the steering box so swerving out for potholes, overtaking and such was a little nerve wracking and I guess the worn shocks accentuated this.

Coming back it was way more solid. So far I'm more than happy. Time will tell how well the shocks will work/last but should I need something else in the near future Mikem will be my first consideration.

I would recommend them anytime. Push through communication issues. The guys really go the extra mile once you're there.

Disclaimer: I am in no way sponsored by Mikem and these words are my owm - uninfluenced by the cheese griller roll (what I actually ordered).

Nor were future cheese grillers promised as payment for a good review.

That's great news! and a learning curve for all.

I never deal with Darrel via e-mail or phone - I just pitch.
He is fantastic face-to-face, but his admin is lacking.
But he knows suspension, is as honest as a politician isn't & will always give the right advice.

Glad you got sorted Shane.

Now to get a new steering box...

Sorry. I guess am going to have to explain the joke...

Suspension Solutions.

A suspension is where stuff does not dissolve, but suspends. Think of pepper and water.

As opposed to:

A solution, where stuff does. Think of sugar and water.

Anyways, just some more arbitrary trivia you can annoy your family with next Christmas time.... :)

Only because I had to be up early and didn't want to risk too much traffic!
