.Well , maybe we could, at very least, salvage something of value out of this ‘new’ 300 Series.
I’m interested in mechanics (only!) of the most expensive one ... that some refer to as ‘the hybrid version’.
Would I be right in assuming this has an electric drive that comes in at lower turbo speeds ... ?
... or is there more to it ?
... and how are the drive batteries charged , on the run via the alternator, and or ice over-run etc
Whilst this high-end LC will never match the performance of the higher-end New Defenders let alone LHs F1 MB
does the latter benefit from somewhat similar hybrid technology and how ?
I’m calling for a technical explanation more than some exposition of a Toyoterites religious or loyalty persuasions.
...........
( I have now found this and other very vague descriptions and indications that infers from the US Tundra :
The Tundra’s hybrid pairs the 3.5-litre V6 petrol and 10-speed automatic with a motor generator, new Power Control Unit, and a sealed 288V nickel-metal hydride battery kept charged by brake-energy recuperation.
Toyota LandCruiser 300 hybrid engine revealed?
The motor offers low-speed EV driving, assists the petrol engine with rolling starts up to 30km/h, adds extra oomph when overtaking or towing, and allows the V6 to decouple when coasting to preserve fuel. )
... maybe someone has a better tech insight ??? ...
The headline figures are 326kW of total power at 5200rpm and 790Nm of torque at 2400rpm (US figures are 437hp and 583 lb.ft). The company also quotes a 12,000-pounds or 5.5-tonne peak towing capacity, for all the caravaners.
Fuel use? No confirmation yet, but clearly there’ll be savings over the non-hybrid V6 petrol.
Now, there’s no official confirmation of a LandCruiser 300 Series ‘i-FORCE MAX’ hybrid, but from a technical perspective it’s the simplest solution…

Chas the V6 3.44 twin turbo motor (with ir without hybridisation) in the new 300 is not new.
This motor, in hybrid and non hybrid forms has been used in the Lexus LS 500 sedan for a few years now.
In fact the floorplan, wiring, motor and gearbox (rolling chassis) of Petrol V6 is used in:
Lexus LS500
Tundra
300
Lexus LX600
It will also appear in the US Sequoia.
So all those vehicles are essentially the same, just different bodies.

Fortunately for you, your wife's perception of size is flawed.
The LC200 and the LC300 are the same size...

Would love a 200 and even a 300 more. Yes I am a fan of large capacity engines. Just so much easier in 4x4 with the low down toque.
The world has moved on however. Multi speed gearboxes and electronic controls with small capacity engines are becoming the norm. In the case of the 300 Series not that small with both engines bigger than 3l.
Time will tell durability of the new engines. One thing Toyota have one of the toughest test programs amongst vehicle manufacturers so expect these engines to be as good or better than the outgoing ones.

You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4

Watched a Ausie review of the 300. They put it up against the Patrol and Defender 110.
They rate the Defender a better towing vehicle than the 300.
The Ausies are more Toyota bedonnerd than Manny and the farmers from the Vrystaat. So I won’t take their review with a pinch of salt

… Dissection of this new version of the old version.
You gotta love these Ozzies ,
just like our kids used to be with new pressies.
Take ‘em apart to see how they work!
( … Wessel … dont try it !!! )
… It seems the Turbos and Manifolds are just nestled
on the valley of the V6 and heat shielded etc
… so not a huge revolution …

Mike, you should get yourself a Defender - it will suit you better than a Land Cruiser does...Mike Nel wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 2:03 pmWatched a Ausie review of the 300. They put it up against the Patrol and Defender 110.
