Chas, recently bought the most basic VW Polo sedan , cost R 221000.00, and it's basic.
New Golf 8 will start at R668k.
It's totally out of control.

Difficult part was to get the insurance to insure the vehicle at purchase price, i needed to hand in proper evaluations to motivate for this. Finally got it done by our esteemed member Erin Bosch.

Erin is fantastic.
Dunno why some guys are insured with so called 'specialized 4x4 insurers'.
Glad Erin managed to cover you for what you paid and not just for what it's worth.

Must say that Santam’s t&c s are beyond fair and not tough, no 6-8 hour bell over one’s head else they don’t pay out…

I’m thinking of dropping my Cross-Country offroad cover
and taking out Santams tamer version.
I’m not the sort to claim on every superficial scratch and scrape like urbanites Manny & Kurt etc
… but if I happened rolled down the hillside uncontrollably at 3 Provs like that Disco a few years ago then I would
want a reasonable panel-beat & repair.
I think the Santam Cover will be much cheaper too
which would also be pleasant.

Chas I doubt Santam will register the Defender since it is a Code 4.

Should this occur, your wife might be more interested in your life insurance.

Ive only made 2 insurance claims on my Defender
in last 30 years :

Once for hail ( the bad storm 10 yrs ? ago )
and once when I rolled into some Toyota ( 1kph …)
( on 3 occassions proletarians / millenial plat cars have
driven into the back of my 130 … but it was not even worth
stopping or assessing … so I didnt. )

Never been in an accident of significance.
Quality of Boomers driving may be even more
than quality of cars they manufactured.

… more to the point Wessel,
have you even got an EB driving licence or higher ???

I hold an EB License Chas. Thanks for the run down of your accidents, Erin would be most pleased.

I was under the impression that Defenders rolled off the showroom floor as Code 4’s?
