Andreas, can’t Toyota use that huge chip on your shoulder to make the smaller chips they need for their millions of vehicles for the next year or two?

The 3.3 V6 in the 300 is unproven. It’ll take a year or so to prove itself and for Toyota to sort out any gremlins, if there are any.
The 200 will therefore hold value for a good few years still.
My 200 is staying put.

Currently Cruiser 200's are selling for R150k over book value.

These drivers of high prices, the so called 'Covid Tax' caused by a decline of new vehicles entering the market due to pointless Lock Downs & further exacerbated by the resultant chip shortage will only begin to gradually be reversed during the later half of 2022 & into 2023...

Well to add my bit, having had a meeting with my direct contact at Toyota factory I can confirm, Toyota is far better off than the other manufacturers, its not just affecting Toyota, they made provision, but it still caught them as well.

Look at the top 30 car sales, Toyota still represent five models sold in the top 10,
"

Toyota retained its domestic market leadership last month with 11,892 sales, with the newly launched Corolla Cross becoming SA’s third most popular vehicle in its first month.

Toyota was followed by VW Group (5,498), Suzuki Auto (3,082), Hyundai (2,869), Nissan (2,328), Ford (2,245), Isuzu (2,157), Renault (2,081), Kia (2,062), and Haval Motors (1,730) rounding out the top 10.

SA’s top-selling new vehicles — November 2021

Toyota Hilux — 2,558
Toyota Hi-Ace — 1,763
Toyota Corolla Cross — 1,757
Isuzu D-Max — 1,666
VW Polo Vivo — 1,608
Toyota Starlet — 1,477
VW Polo — 1,221
Ford Ranger — 1,165
Suzuki S-Presso — 926
Toyota Agya — 911
Renault Kwid — 876
Suzuki Swift — 859
VW T-Cross — 838
Kia Picanto — 729
Renault Triber — 719
Toyota Fortuner — 701
Toyota Urban Cruiser — 699
VW Polo Sedan — 669
GWM P Series - 655
Ford EcoSport — 630
Nissan Navara — 617
Nissan NP200 — 589
Hyundai Atos — 551
Hyundai Creta — 525
Toyota Corolla Quest — 517
Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up — 506
Haval Jolion — 468
Hyundai Grand i10 — 444
Kia Sonet — 439
Toyota Rumion — 375"

When last have you driven past the Motor Via , Bond store, and holding area. in the good days it was jam packed full. Lately I doubt if a third of the space is filled.

Bottom line its very serious, and it affects the entire industry.
2011 Toyota Prado 3.0 VX,
2013 Suzuki Jimny, Ratel (larger than life),
2023 Toyota Starlet xr auto,
2019 Invader Duo.

… yes, the situation is concerning.

Seems to have more affected the availability
of the quality vehicles than the common herd …

I do also note,
that VW Polo versions are seperately reported:

VW Polo Vivo — 1,608
VW Polo — ……. 1,221
VW Polo Sedan — 669
